Wakas-

in the case of spiritual seeking and striving, i feel the answer is certainly "yes". it seems like every few months an american magazine will have a front-page article on how God (or worship) is ingrained into our DNA. i would retreat back to more classical language and say it is woven into the fabric of our hearts, and that this itself is a clear sign to consider.

the "thirsty" analogy also brings to mind those Sufi poets who insisted that we thirst while unknowingly in front of a fresh-water ocean.

Yes if one thirsts it implies the existence of something which can quench it. Common sense.
And if you were to try to count the favours of Allah, you will never be able to number them. (16:18)

Very interesting topic.

However, I don't fully understand it yet. Please explain it more.

No offence, I just want to learn. I wonder:

-If one (many) longs for coming of the "mehdi", does he or his coming exist?

-Children long for santa-clause coming at night, does he exist? (Or their parents came instead?)

-Many people who believe in shamans or those type of doctors long for the help of one or more "sacred spirits", do they exit?

-Many long for the "king of kings, ...lion of judah" as in Rastafari, the long for God's coming as a living man, so does God's incarnate really exist or existed?

Please help clarify.

May God Guide.

Those are all psychological/conceptual.

Thirst is tangible.

Thanks, OPF.

Now I understand more about it, it should be a tangible longing.

Anyway, how can I prove that thirst/long for (the one) God is tangible?

On the issue of language I think the Bakhtin circle was right.

L.Hu

Perhaps language is the only reality.

L.Hu

Logic, mathematics, reason, and philosophy are all products of language. "Man acts as though he were the shaper and master of language, while in fact language remains the master of man. --Martin Heidegger". The world is merely what we think it is.

Yes, actually, it does.

For one to thirst, one actually needs to need water, and be based on water, and well, all life is based on water.

Rephrased, yes, if a living being thirsts, then that implies the existance of water - not so much the thirst, but the living.

Let:
Thirst := desires for water
(for clarity sake)

Then

If a living being posses a desire for water, then that implies the existence of water within the living being's mindset.

Transposed to another context gives us:

If a living being posses a desire for 'meeting with an alien / being from outer space'.
then that implies the existence of an alien/being from outer space within the living being's mindset.
It doesn't necessary imply that this alien/being from outer space does in reality exist.
