Peace,

I've been thinking about Christianity and Buddhism and Eckhart Tolle, etc.

My understanding of real Buddhism is that it's a form of asceticism, where you can never repay evil for evil, you can never get angry, etc and in Christianity always to turn the other cheek and to always give to those who ask of you, especially if they don't pay you back, is just unrealistic, both of them.

Sometimes you have to put your foot down and say no, even if in the past you've said yes, if you ALWAYS turn the other cheek and  if you ALWAYS give to those who ask of you, you will definitely get used by manipulative people who will never let you go and they will at times corrupt you as well for personal gain. A controlled ethical and legal anger can be a catalyst for a good change. My honest advice to everyone is respect the laws of your country, because evening  scores can sometimes lead to prison, so sometimes it might be better to let go, but that's mainly when you're dealing with criminally minded people. That's why I said legal, i suppose that's just common sense.

I mean, Christianity is also a bit of an asceticism( at least Jesus's teachings in the gospels are, later on they contradict him in the New Testament) and that's like begging for food, which is also what buddhists do which is getting someone else to the "dirty work" for you. That's just not right and it's totally unrealistic.

And so on and so forth.......

Thanks
My real name is also Ervin

QuoteI've been thinking about Christianity and Buddhism and Eckhart Tolle, etc.

Buddhism in a way was an opposite response to the vedic and traditional diety based religion but took some thoughts from the pre existing Aajivika religion, In Buddhism an all pervasive powerful controlling god is absent, it stems from the teachings of Buddha or the enlightened one, whose teachings could take one away from the cycles of rebirth and guide people towards moksha or englightement. Buddist principles are more theoretical and fails at most times due to lifes unpredictability,so people naturally go after deities and leave things to God or Gods.

Christianity came from its two roots, its a mix up of Roman gods or their way of seeing God and Jewish religion. The Roman religion which is used by the sea traders that sees God in cycles of natural forces like sun, water, sea and rivers, when they overcome the Semetic land, they took and form a new religion as per some local traditional story of Jesus, which might have coexisted among some semetic tribes.
