Allah has used many words to describe the abode of people who are adjudged to live in the hereafter such as Jahanna, Naar, Jaheem etc..

Through all these verses, do you consider that Allah places disbelievers directly connected to the FIRE so that they be burned literally by literal fire, or is the abode full of hardship where it is fully heated like living in an extreme desert or nearby to a volcano when it is erupted where life but miserable from all aspects?

what's your understanding..

Of late whenever I read the verses, I feel that these abode of hell is such a pit where life is horrible while Janna is pleasing..

what are your thoughts on the Quran and your up-to-date perception based on that..

How logical and how far it is possible for the people of Jahannam to make some other people under their feet stamp them while they themselves being burned in a literal fire how come they ask for water or how come they call the guards to ask for relief while they are in FIRE.. why one need food while in the fire burning... Aren't these verses hint to us that the abode of Hell is indeed a Hell where life is miserable and no one would enjoy a single aspect of life and isn't it right judgment for those who denied Allah..

Is a miserable life worthy or a life burning in literal fire?

Note : All these words NAAR, JAHANNAM, JAHEEM etc do have the other meaning other than literal Fire..

I had simimar queries back in 2015 and an old friend of mine (Arman) has provided me with his view on the same subject as below.
These are excerpts from Arman's reply back then on this site, and I sort of agree with him but still not entierly because there is a room for error due to the fact that the world of hereafter is completely different that what we can ever perceive and it may has its own natural laws.

Quran gives unlimited assurance of forgiveness for those who sincerely repent in time. But those who, in spite of all assurances, choose to live a life of evil? it warns them of dire consequences.

However, the specific wordings of suffering in hell are obviously allegorical. Consider the first instance where suffering of fire and the happiness of zannah is mentioned in Quran:

2:23   And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our slave then bring over a section from similar thereof and call upon your witness from beside Allah, if you happen to be sincere.

2:24   But if you don?t, and never will you do, then be conscious of the fire - whose fuel are the men and the stones ? prepared for the ones who repress (faith).

2:25   And give (glad) tidings to those who have put faith and act righteously that for them (there are) gardens with streams flowing underneath ? every time they are provided from there provision of fruit, they say, ?This is what we were provided from before? ? and with it is brought an allegory; and for them - purified mates in it ? and they will be in there permanently.

2:26   Indeed Allah is not embarrassed to set forth an example of even a mosquito or something above it ? then as for those who have put faith, so they know that is the truth from their Master, and as for those who repress (faith) so they say ?What does Allah intend by this example?? He deviates many with it and guides many with it, but He does not deviate with it anyone except the willfully disobedient.

The true suffering is the condemnation of Allah, and the angels and mankind altogether ? for those who truly have faith in Allah, the condemnation of Allah? itself is the ultimate punishment - as undesirable as burning in fire ? the additional repeated stern wording in Quran is not a matter of any more botheration; while for those who do not have that sensibility ? perhaps the stern wording of Quran would make them rethink.

The stern wording often gives further insight if you can read the allegory. For example the verse on changing the skin of the wrongdoers to taste the suffering allegorically imply that the wrongdoers will reappear in the world throughout history in different appearance / skins. In fact Allah makes them reappear to taste the suffering. Note I am not talking about resurrection / rebirth ? I am just saying people of same mindset reappear.

Thanks for your participation in this topic and for providing your short view and the excerpts of your friend.

All I have to say is nothing is allegorical ... Hell is literal so is the Janna/Paradise... But my point here to emphasize is that the Nature of Hell is not literal Fire rather it is the effect of Fire and Heat in the abode..

Regarding the skin replacement ... Well it could be to taste the heat and the vehemence and the affliction of the Hell their skins are replaced so that they would feel the same affliction always... Otherwise, if they get used to the condition they may not sense the affliction ... It's all about vehement heat and suffers and thirst but no tangible support is provided to them to alleviate their condition but they will suffer and continue to suffer and they will accompany mean things to mitigate their hunger and thirst.. in a nutshell, a hell of a life as they say.

It is not a kind of Punishment but Azab is a Humiliation of life... Allah revenge with Humiliation where nothing of Allah's mercy or grace or abundance would be accompanied to them ...

The reason for the humiliation was mainly they enjoyed the abundance of Allah and never were grateful in their life and having to live a life without the support of Allah is indeed miserable ...

regarding the verse 2:24 it is not stones and Fire bla bla.. I go as under..

2:24 "..... .. then be conscious of the Wrath/indignation/fury (Naar) which propels the commotion and the separation, prepared for the disbelievers."

This wrath will leave the dwellers of hell into separate groups.. and they will suffer as they are assigned by Allah according to the weight of their deeds..

41:19 And, on that Day when the enemies of Allah will be gathered to the Hell (AlNaar) while they are assembled in rows,

The above clearly indicates in my perception that it's not the FIRE but it is a horrible Place..

41:20 Eventually, when they reached it, their hearing and their vision and their accompanied people/kinsfolk testified against them of what they used to do.

Their Hearing, Vision, and those who were with them in life and ended in Hell testified against them strangely..

almost all translations stated JULD meaning SKINS but big NO in these verses.. The skin has nothing to testify against them while Hearing and Vision indeed as well those who were with them in life..

They are all destined to live in that terrible and miserable and despondent Hell where the Heat is beyond what one can expect..

I should remind you that I am not trying to show sympathy to disbelievers in attempting to raise a point that Hell is not real fire in which they will be burned it is a miserable life only....

Hardship and suffering without seeing or any hope of a sign that they would get back to a better life is simply petrifying to even think.. It is worse than just burning...

My understanding though and not pacifying any disbelievers here.. Nobody knows where their end would be.. it's all up to Allah.
