Authentic Proof of the sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha from the holy Qur'an and hadith
:welcome:

By Mohammad Rafique Etesame

Eid-ul-Azha is an important event of lsam. Millions of Muslims from all over the world offer sacrifice on this occasion. This is a source to gain the blessings of God and purity and piety.
Sacrifice is such an act that the Islamic Ummah see eye to eye with its authoritativeness and authenticity. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his companions (God be pleased with them) used to offer animal sacrifice on the eve of Eid-uld-Azha.

This sacrifice is necessary (Wajib) for whom who is the owner of the syllabus of Zakat. This is proved by the holy Quran, Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and with the practice of companions and by the verdict of the famous Muslim jurists like Imam Abu hanifa, Imam Shafie, Imam Ahmed Bin Humble, Etc. (Tahavi Hadaya).
Unfortunately, some people see it mere a 'mustahab'(optionally) and not "wajib."  It means if a Muslim offers sacrifice, he will be rewarded on the Day of Judgment and if he does not, then he will never be punished.

These people are of the opinion that majority of the companions considered this sacrifice as sort of supererogatory worship and not a compulsory one. That is why they did not offer sacrifice on this day. They say that Hazrat Bilal Habshi offered the "sacrifice of chicken" on this auspicious day.
Hazrat Ibne Abbas, on this day sent for his servant to market, asked him to bring meat worth two dirham. When he returned, Hazrat Ibne Abbas pointed to that meat and said that it was the 'sacrifice' of ibne Abbas.

So, I prove the authenticity of this sacrifice here by the holy Qur'an and the hadith:-
Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran: "And for every nation have we appointed a ritual, that they may mention the name of Allah over the beast of cattle that He hath given them for food; and your God is One God, Therefore surrender unto Him. And give good tidings (O Muhammad (PBUH) to the humble whose hearts fear when Allah is mentioned, and the patient of whatever may be fall them, and those who establish worship and who spend of that We have bestowed on them And the camels'. We have appointed them among the ceremonies of Allah Therein ye have much good.

So mention the name of Allah over them when they are drawn up in line. Then when their flanks fall (dead), eat thereof and feed the beggar and the suppliant. Thus have We mad them subject unto you, that haply ye may give thanks. Their flesh and their blood reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reaches Him (The Pilgrimage: 37)
And "Lo! We have given thee abundance; so pray unto thy Lord, and sacrifice. Lo! It is thy insulter (and not thou) who is without posterity (Surah Al-Asar).
Hazrat Ibne Abbas says in the light of this Surah that it is about the religious sacrifice only.

Moreover, the famous companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) says that 'nahr' means only sacrifice of animals (Tafseer Ibne Kaseer).
Another verse reveals about the sacrifice of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) saying "Say: Lo! My worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds (Cattle: 162)

These Quranic verses reveal that :-
1. Every past nation had its sacrifice of animals and similarly for the Muslim Ummah.
1. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) offered sacrifice and then his companions (R.A.) also did so. So, this sacrifice is proved by the Holy Qurans and also by the authentic Ahadiths as:-
1) Hazrat Anas (God be please with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) slaughtered two he-goats on the Eid-day whose hides were white and black and horns were high (Bokhari, Muslim).

2) Mother of the faiths, Hazrat Aisha Siddiqah (God be pleased with her) narrated that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that no process of the Muslim is reward able on the Eid-ul-Azha than the sacrifice of animal, this is accepted while the first blood-drop do not fall on the earth yet. (Thirmadihi, Ibne Maja).
3) The Holy Prophet (PBUH) while asked about the sacrifice of Eid-ul-AZha replied that it was the Sunnah of their father Hazrat Abrahim (A.S). The companions (God be pleased with them) asked about its reward, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied that there was one virtue against every one hair of the slaughtered animal. (Ahmed, Ibne Maja).

4) Hazrat Ibne Abbas narrated that we were on the way one day while the Eid-ul-Azha fell, so we seven persons took part in the slaughter of cow and ten persons in the camel) (Tirmadi, Nasai)
So, this is the authentic proof of the sacrifice of EID-UL-AZHA.

Hello Everyone,

The concept of Eid al-Adha and then in it an obligation for those who can afford to sacrifice an animal(s) has always been a question for me and I appreciate if you guys can clarify my doubts.

1. Is it proven from Quran that muslims should set one day for Eid al-Adha and that all muslims should celebrate it? Or is this day -Eid al-Adha is only applicable to the people who are performing Hajj.?

2. Likewise is the concept of sacrificing an animal is restricted or shall i say valid for those who perform Hajj as one of its steps OR is it also applicable to muslims in general?

3. Most of the traditional muslims related the tradition of sacrificing animal to the Quran Chapter 37: [100- 108]  and say its the Sunna of Porphet Ibrahiim and that Prophet Mohammad followed the same sunnah and hence it is obligation on all muslims who can afford to sacrifice on Eid al-Adha.?

4. Same story is repeated in Bible difference being Jacob and Ismail. So does quran specifically says it was Ismail and not Jacob whom Ibrahim had a dream and talk about slaughtering him? and what it is so important for muslims to say it was Ismail and not Jacob?

5. Lastly one of the quranists GA Pervez attrributed that the dream Ibrahim had could never be from God almighty because God would not ask his messengers or test him through a path which is not worthy of HIM. What is your opinion?
GA Pervex translation:

Am sure these may have been discussed in details in many threads but i wanted a clear answer hence my thread.

101.      So We gave him the glad tidings of a son who (besides other qualities) would be patient and full of energy.

102.      When the son grew up he was able to render help to his father.  One day the father told him, "O my son.  I saw in my dream that I am slaughtering you.  Think about it seriously and let me know your views."

The son told the father, "O my father.  You should carry out every directive of the Almighty.  If you think it is His directive and command, then go ahead and slaughter me.  You will find me steadfast, because if Allah Almighty commands so, there should be no hesitation."

103.      (Abraham taking the dream to be Almighty's command, prepared to slaughter the son.)  Both the father and the son (considering the dream to be God's command) submitted; and Abraham laid his son down, prostrate, in his temple.

104-105.            We immediately removed this thought from Abraham's mind and called out to him, O Abraham.  You considered your dream as Allah's command and laid your son for the purpose of slaughtering him! This was not Our command, but merely a dream of yours.  Therefore We have saved you and your son from this.  We have done so because We keep those who lead their lives according to Divine guidance safe from such mishaps.

106.      This indeed was a clear and distinctive reward which was given to Abraham.

107.      As far as the son is concerned, We saved him for a far greater and tremendous sacrifice.  (This great sacrifice refers to the fact that instead of keeping his leadership confined to Syria, We wanted him to become the custodian of Our House Kaaba, which was located in the far off barren land of Arabia and which had to become the center and gathering place of all those the world over, who believed in the unity of God ~ 14:37.)

108.      The sacrifice which Abraham wanted to give would have remained confined to his son (Ishmail); but the 'sacrifice' for which We saved him (that is the custodianship of the Kaaba) would continue for posterity (even after Ishmail).

109.      In this way Abraham continued receiving blessings and salutations ever after.

110.      This is because he led his life in a balanced and righteous manner, in conformity with Our Laws.  And whoever leads his life in this manner will get the same results.

111.      He certainly was one of Our subjects who firmly believed in the truthfulness of Our Laws.

Thanks
Best Regards,

As I understood, animal slaughter is part of Hajj, so people can have a feast. From Ibrahim many communities had Hajj-like manifestations with feast at the end, for example a tribe of Albans who lived before Rome was founded. One, who's not on Hajj can send an animal as a gift (hedy) for the people there. I don't think that any date in calendar is Hajj or 'Eed day, but host of the Hajj (Ibrahim and people after him) choses date(s).

As for aayaat in 37th surah, they should be taken slowly, because there're words used only in them and they should be reconsidered within the context, without taking any story out of the Qur'an. What I saw in them is that Ibrahim had been dreaming (more then once) about son-sacrifice. In that moment it was his only son (Isma'il). He understood those dreams as he has to send his only son away to a valley near a place where Petra was founded later. When they both esleme (surrendered to order) and done so, Ibrahim got another son for one he "lost" (sent away).

Btw, there was a place near Heliopolis (Ibrahim's settlement near modern Cairo) where remains of animals were found and archeologists recognized it as a place of animal-sacrifice. If I found again reference to this I'll share.
