Peace brothers and sisters,

A historic change is happening right now in the muslim community and in the world which might lead to the second golden age of islam, and one man is massively contributing towards this change.

The educator, missionary, activist and author Dr. Hany Atchan is taking the internet by storm with his groundbreaking analysis. He got a lot of subscribers on youtube in a short period of time. He covers issues and topics which might be considered very controversial by some people.

Let me share some information about Dr. Hany Atchan here.

- He seems like a sincere and humble scholar with pure intentions.
- He claims the Quran contains its own organic Quranic methodology for engaging it.
- He focuses on the Quran as a primary source for engaging and understanding the Quran.
- He neither promotes traditionalism or modernism with regards to islam, but offers a third option.
- He promotes a methodology for understanding the Quran which appeals to both tradtionalists and modernists.
- He appears to accept Hadith (narrations), but is apparently against the idea of using them to restrict the interpretation of the Quran.
- He appears to be against using reports from earlier scriptures (the Torah and the Injeel) to interpret the Quranic stories and parables.
- He claims the books of Tafsir (exegesis) mis-identified the true nature of the Quran, thereby assuming that the Quran needs to be explained through "Arab poet language."

Worst thing to do is exaggerate about a person, this leads to blind following and personality worship. Are you researching and verifying everything he said or simply accepting it?

Quran isn't cryptic or hidden, everything can be deduced by those who know it's language and are seeking guidance from Allah.

Salaam,
it would be better if Dr. Hany Atchan closed the donations and partnerships section on his website and demonetize his YouTube channel if there is any possibility of getting money from there.

Quran isn't cryptic or hidden, everything can be deduced by those who know it's language and are seeking guidance from Allah.

When I wrote the OP about Hany Atchan, I did not intend to exaggarate him. In my humble opinion, it is of crucial importance to verify and question everything Hany Atchan and other scholars say/write. Of course I do not encourage anyone to blindly follow or worship scholars. But I do believe it is useful to have an open mind and be willing to learn from others. My advice is to always be willing to study the works of scholars and thinkers, even if what they say/write is controversial and throughtprovoking or even if it goes against most of what know about islam/quran. Being a critical thinker is being willing to examine ones beliefs, assumptions and opinions and weigh them against facts and evidence. In order to increase ones knowledge and understanding, it is of crucial importance to be aware of ones own biases and how they influence ones conclusions. Don't you agree?

I guess I was just talking about Hany Atchan and his work enthusiastically. Never ever have I said or thought that Hany Atchan is the first or only scholar to produce groundbreaking works about the quran and make extraordinary and precious contributions to quranic studies. As a matter of fact, muslim scholars/educators and thinkers such as Muhammad Asad, Muhammad Shahrour, Syed Ahmed Khan, Ghulam Ahmad Parwez, Fazlur Rahman, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, Toshihiko Izutzu and Asma Barlas have also produced groundbreaking works about the quran and made extraordinary and precious contributions to quranic studies. Hany Atchan is not the first scholar to make massive contributions towards quran, nor will he be the last. But if he continues to make such contributions towards quran/islam, he might join the ranks of great muslim scholars and thinkers in the future.

As far as I know, Hany Atchan have never indicated that the Quran is cryptic or hidden. Like several other muslim scholars and thinkers he uses the method of cross-reference to derive meanings from different verses in the Quran. He derives meaning of quranic words/terms in different verses by comparing them to stories that are mentioned in the Quran. So instead of using external sources such as Hadith (narrations), Tafseer (exegesis), biblical teachings, the teachings of the torah or even Arab poet language, he uses the method of cross-reference combined with a method of contextual analysis, since he seemingly believes the meaning of a word/term in the Quran is fixed/unchanged and can be understood by comparing it to stories that are mentioned in the Quran.

If you would like to know more about his methodology, please watch these videos.

As far as I remember, in one of his videos, he suggested that some of his donations goes to a fund. I don't believe he enriches himself through donations. Plus most of the materials (i.e. transcripts to his videos) can be downloaded for free for members of his website.

Almost at the bottom of his website you can find this information.

How Your Donations Help

- To fund the daily operations (office, equipment, communication, and workers)
- To maintain the technical infrastructure (Audio-Visual equipment, computers, Access to Internet, etc)
- To protect this 3ilm from opponents and insecure rejecters
- To fund scholarships for students and teachers
- To train scholars, academic researchers, and speakers
- To conduct outreach campaigns to Muslims across the world
- To provide materials for DaƐwah workers
- To conduct DaƐwah campaigns to reach non-Muslims across the world
- To defend against threats and false accusations
- To expedite the translation and documentation efforts

According to his bio and background, he lives in a rental apartment, he doesn't own much. He drives a 15-year old car, the couch he is sitting on is a rental and the last clothing item he purchased was 6 years ago while on a trip to Istanbul, Turkey.

peace,

see prior post above, he distorts and mistranslates verses inserting his own words avoids 28:38 which destroys his conjectures and never mind 1000 clueless Kardashian trolls who cannot read praising him which this video too wasted an hour; hadith based rant inserting words where there are none; see 24:00 minute "messenger" and the prophet, really?

The Middle Path

Peace Euphoric,

Btw, on Hany Atchan's website, you can find this information (please particularly read the part in bold almost at the bottom of the text).

We believe that a historic shift is taking place, within the Muslim Ummah today: We call it the divinely-granted human right to directly engage the QurꜤān. With the Internet and the wide availability of knowledge, accessible to every Muslim, people are taking matters into their own hands. They are no longer waiting for parroting scholars, and the proverbial "genie" is out of the box. And therefore, we need to provide a clear solution to empower those who are searching, on their own, for answers to their legitimate and sincere questions.

This is what the Marvelous QurꜤān Project seeks to do. We want to support the God-given right for every individual to engage the QurꜤān, directly, and without permission from anyone except Allahh.

Most contemporary Muslims face five basic problems in their engagement of the QurꜤān:

1. Language barrier.
2. Weird interpretations and translations that do not make sense.
3. Contradicting / misleading / incongruent translations.
4. Mythological, Fairy tale like tafseers that offend the intellect and cater only to the superstitious and the uneducated.
5. Asbabun-nuzul: A gathering of stories that are claimed to be the reasons for revelation of various verses of the QUraꜤān..

We don't have answers to every question, nor does anyone other than Allah, the creator of the QurꜤān. But this should not stop us from sharing our limited knowledge, hoping to allow future generations to carry the flag further down afield. We should never allow perfect to become the enemy of good, as long as we keep our humility, and we keep our servitude exclusively to Allahh.

We do not claim to guide anyone. Allahh is the only true guide to his true way.

We do not seek blind followers or reliant fans. We encourage viewers and followers to constantly ask questions and to persistently seek legitimate evidence to verify our claims and to take responsibility for their own decisions.

Our only goal is to please Allahh in all that we do.
