That verse was a command. It is no longer applicable simply because the Nabi is no longer with us.
At the time ,the Nabi was bringing them revelation, it was not his fault nor the revelation was his words, arguing with him or shouting at him or raising voices over him would not change a word from GOD. That is why it was necessary for GOD to issue that command:
O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the prophet,* nor shall you shout at him as you shout at each other, lest your works become nullified while you do not perceive..
يٰأَيُّهَا الَّذينَ ءامَنوا لا تَرفَعوا أَصوٰتَكُم فَوقَ صَوتِ النَّبِىِّ وَلا تَجهَروا لَهُ بِالقَولِ كَجَهرِ بَعضِكُم لِبَعضٍ أَن تَحبَطَ أَعمٰلُكُم وَأَنتُم لا تَشعُرونَ
Whenever the word ``prophet'' (Nabi) is used in reference to Muhammad in Qoran, it invariably refers to him during his life, not after his death. Obviously, we cannot possibly raise our voices above Muhammad's voice, now that he is dead.
That is why we never find "Obey the Nabi2 in Qoran, only "Obey the messenger." Because the Nabi is the man and the man has his own words and opinions. But the messenger only brings the message and therefore one is Obeying GOD s words.
