Does anyone know of an article which lists the reasons Quran gives for communities going astray (and perhaps people for that matter)?

I think there is no need of an article. The only reason is mentioned in 18:17

وَتَرَى الشَّمۡسَ اِذَا طَلَعَتۡ تَّزٰوَرُ عَنۡ كَهۡفِهِمۡ ذَاتَ الۡيَمِيۡنِ وَاِذَا غَرَبَتۡ تَّقۡرِضُهُمۡ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ وَهُمۡ فِىۡ فَجۡوَةٍ مِّنۡهُ‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ مِنۡ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ‌ ؕ مَنۡ يَّهۡدِ اللّٰهُ فَهُوَ الۡمُهۡتَدِ ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ يُّضۡلِلۡ فَلَنۡ تَجِدَ لَهٗ وَلِيًّا مُّرۡشِدًا  ۞

Nah, I prefer something more in-depth because it would be nice to have reference/checklist to ensure one does not fall into the same traps. A simple article kind of like this one.
