Peace 357,

No, I don't believe so.

If someone is participating in the traditional fast and is not properly caring for their body with nutritious food and lots of water for hydration at night - That's where the problem lies, not fasting. If you're neglecting to care for yourself properly at all, that's another issue entirely. Naturally, a person will get sick if they're not caring for themselves.

A person's environment and duties while fasting should, IMO, give them permission not to fast if their conditions would make them sick or weak (such as health issues, prolonged extreme heat and heavy lifting, to name only a few). If they feel they're going to get sick or really sick, then they should stop fasting immediately (or never start fasting at all) and nourish their bodies. God does not wish hardship on us.

And a person should always use their best judgment when determining if it is healthy for them to fast or not.

Using ones judgement , i know some women in pakistan fast and say we are getting rewards of two fasts Vow!

is that depriving the poor little one of nutrients.

I had an employee , diabetic , i told him he shouldn't be fasting - but he wanted the benefits of fasting obviously didn't listen - now he is sick as ....

Vow!

Judgments.....

Are you saying they're pregnant and they're fasting?

He should have listened... Oh well. He brought it upon himself. :-\ Insha'Allah he has come to his senses now and won't fast... I'm realizing I'm assumed he's stopped fasting though... Surely he's stopped by now if he got really sick? Oh dear.

'Fasting is best for you, if you only knew"

Its actualy beneficial. in fact, it is actualy a cure to disease.

in saying that, people who are ill for cannot reasonably fast, i.e diabetics, or others with a medical condition that makes them unable to, etc. are excused, so they are not put in hardship.
What could i say that is better than what God has already informed us of?

I do not understand why this is a poll.
Our votes will not change the fact if it is or if it is not.

good logic

Peace 357.

Are some people  going to guess for you?

Are you asking the Scientists who researched fasting?

What do you do with the poll?

Your question is wrong , the end result is not going to tell you anything!

I can give you my opinion here in this post, according to my own experience of fasting. I feel stronger and healthier than when I am not fasting. I also enjoy my food better.

GOD knows us better than we know ourselves. He says fasting is better for you if you only knew.

GOD bless you.
Peace.

Peace,
I agree completely, God is The Knowing, The Wise, as he instructs us in what is best for us, part of which is eating and drinking moderately, and fasting

Salamu Alaykum all and Ramadan Kareem!

From my own experience of Ramadan, I can say that fasting not only makes me stronger, but it also has benefited my health in countless ways. During Ramadan, I am in my best shape, I have the most energy, and my (not to be crude) bodily functions are all working at top notch.

I also notice that fasting helps you to regulate your metabolism. Throughout the year, my body now requires less food as it uses it more efficiently and is storing far less as useless fat. I also am able to fast easier every year, as my body is now accustomed to ketosis, or changing its energy source from food in the stomach/intestines, to fat stores. For me, Ramadan is a blessing, and everyone should try to do it if they are able in my opinion.

If they are able of course is a big issue, which is why God so brilliantly and explicitly laid out the criteria in the few verses that exist on Ramadan fasting, I think we all know them well. So that guy with diabetes, obviously was going against God's recommendation in the Qur'an, for example.

Additionally, as other forum members mentioned, fasting in general is actually prescribed as a cure for many diseases. Here are a couple links on that information:

Beneficial effect on serum apo AI, apo B and Lp AI levels of Ramadan fasting http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0009898197002453

Of course, everyone's body chemistry is slightly different. Thus, as God says, if it is an extreme hardship on you, then feed one poor person for each day of the fast (this is a good thing to do anyway).

Salaam everyone and Ramadan Kareem!
