To be honest, I want to know the real meaning of hoor (I have curiosity), but maybe I can't really know about it during my life in this world, unless God allows me to know about it before I die.
Portraying hoor as "virgin nymph for the pious man" is too "rough" or even "sassy", if I may say so.
I think "hoor/hūr" does not specifically refer to female entity.
If I loook at the use of the triliteral root ḥā wāw rā (ح و ر) in the Qur'an, then to me, looks like this root has implication to describe some qualities such as "fair", "loyal", "close/familiar", "pure/clean", "solidarity", "honest", "supportive", "caring", the words that relate with goodness that can be find in the bond of friendship.
So, in my personal opinion, perhaps "hoor" is used to describe the excellent and fair quality of something, e.g. the quality that required to establish pure friendships, probably such quality will be granted by God to those who reside in Jannah.
Salām.
