I was watching TV last night a came across a lot of programs on "real" ghost stories and ghost hunting and wanted to open up a dialogue on this board about the Islamic perspective on ghosts and actually ghost hunting. Also curious to see if any one has any stories they've experienced with ghost, the paranormal or Jinn.

I don't think ghosts or monsters exist. There is no evidence...

Salam
there are many opinions about ghosts or spirits. What tell the Quran?

In the Quran we found the word 'Jinn'  (from its root  implies something which remains hidden, covered or concealed)

-they can see you from where you can not see them  7.27
-Quran mentions two separate creations ins and ginn  55.14-16
-The creation of man with clay (salsalin), black mud (ham'in) altered (masnun) (15:26) and thereafter, extract fluid (semen) 32:8, the  creation of the Jinn from 'nare-sumun' (15:27) and 'mariji-min nar' (55:15).
- the word nar don't must understood literally - it seems the Quran describe the ginn with nar, for the better understanding (7th century)
15.27, and 55.15 points to something unsteady, ferocity- often interpreted as smokeless fire, scorching wind
-The creation of the Jinn was initiated before the creation of humankind. 15.26/27
-the term majnun in his primary meaning in the Quran is 'possession by the Ginn'  see 15.6, 37.36
- the Jinn can move rapid throughout space 72.8/9
-the Jinn live and die 46/18
-Interaction between man and Ginn is recognised.  positive 34:13, 27:39-40 or negative 6:128

So from my point of view, the Quran support the existence of spirits= Ginns

Jinns.... I am still trying to learn about what they actually are.

I am not 100% agreed upon some understanding of spirits as I need to do further research. If spirits do exist in the traditional sense then I think those people who go out and search for them are probably causing some nuisance to the spirits. Also the existence of Jinns is something that is mentioned in the Quran and therefor something in which we should believe in.

I recently finished reading Alif the Unseen and it has Jinns as characters in it. It also touches upon the modern day problem of people believing in the Quran but having this dilemma of believing in the existence of jinn as it doesn't seem to fit. Its a small portion of the book but got me thinking. Has anyone else read this book?
...O my Lord! Lo! mine own folk make this Qur'an of no account.
