Greetings and Peace, all

Just discovered this recent article regarding "virgin" births. WOW!

Excerpt from article:

"I think the frequency is what really shocked us," Booth added. "In the copperhead population, we detected one instance in 22 litters, whereas in the cottonmouths, it was one in 37 litters. Essentially, somewhere between 2.5 and 5 percent of litters produced in these populations may be resulting from parthenogenesis. That's quite remarkable for something that has been considered an evolutionary novelty, even by me up until this finding."

Peace be with you as well...
Yeah, virgin birth could be found in other animal species.
I have studied Komodo Dragons before, and based on their Genetic composition. The female could reproduce without a mate, and produce all male offspring, which could later mate with their mother to keep the species alive.

Wouldn't a non divine virgin birth result in a clone?

Peace.

The concept of the virgin birth is incompatible with the Qur'aanic representation of biological reproduction:

"He has created for you pairs from amongst yourselves, and pairs from amongst cattle. Thus does He cause you to spread." (Q. 42:11)

"O people! Surely We have created you from a male and female." (Q. 49:13)

"Surely He has created the pairs, the male and the female, from the sperm when it is cast." (Q. 53:45, 46)

Based on this, the concept of biological reproduction is a law established by God himself. And the Qur'aan explicitly states that there are 'no changes' in the laws of God (Q. 33:62). This means that nobody is an exception to this rule, and everyone is generated from the combination of a male and a female... Otherwise, we can conclude that the Qur'aan is incorrect in this regard.

Ahmad

Do you jest?  There are plenty of creatures that reproduce through binary fission, asexual reproduction, et cetera.  Further, consider that we are instructed to learn from creation:

2:164 Surely, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the differences between the night and the day, and the ships that sail in the sea for the benefit of the people, and what GOD has sent down of water from the sky so He brings the earth back to life after it had died, and He sent forth from it every creature, and the dispatching of the winds and the clouds that have been designated between the earth and the sky are signs for a people who comprehend.

What is observable in the universe should not be ignored.  In observing the universe, one can also observe laws established by ALLAH.  Parthenogenesis, hermaphroditism (whether human or oyster or other), homosexuality in ALL known species of animals, asexual reproduction, infertility (for some), and so forth are facts and not issues of faith.

In 49:13, who is addressed--oysters or people?  :hmm "O people!..." It may be that humans can only reproduce from pairs--it wouldn't be shocking.  However, the rest of creation is not addressed here.  Also note that the word "only" is not present.  The universe is a wonderful creation, very diverse.

ALLAH knows best.
