Salaam/peace guys,

I came across this site when I was fifteen years old and I've been doing the Qur'an Alone thing ever since. Believe me, it took a couple of months to get used to this because  I grew up in a moderate Sunni family. I told my sister about it and she thought all this was "suspiciously convincing," but she still doesn't buy it, and I can't blame her. She's still more understanding than my parents. I braced up the courage to tell them last year and they debated about it with me. They were nice and all because they were worried, but they kept throwing their opinions around while I wanted hard facts. You know, real proof that following the Hadith was necessary. I even emailed a scholar about my change and the articles she sent me were no match for this site even though they were written by scholars too, and you know how professional everyone considers them to be.

I was never really that interested in the Hadith aspect of Sunni-ism, and the translation of the Qur'an scared me as a kid, but I was always searching for answers. My love for God exceeded everything thing else in religion, but it was mostly passive since I was lazy when it came to prayer. I did do duas (supplication) though. They were my largest source of comfort.

Then I heard people talking about how loving the prophet was also important, but I couldn't bring myself to do that. I really did try, but it didn't make sense to me since the whole point of religion was to worship God.

Some times I have these agnostic thoughts about God. I believe He exists, but there's a difference between knowing and believing.

all of us in search of the truth at one time or another have had such thoughts.  none of us know the truth.  i don't know if God exists but it is something that i believe.  i don't know if there is an afterlife but it is something that i believe.

well, join the crowd!

Peace Mystical.

All believers go through the trial. It is extremely hard , but there is a promise from the Lord that those who pass the trial will " Know the truth" and they will be " Certain that GOD exists". HE will let them know.

51:17″ The earth is full of signs ( about your Creator) for those who are certain, and within yourselves. ( your own body and organs) Can you see?.?
23:57 ? surely those who are reverently concious of their Lord.?
It seems you are aware. It is a start.
GOD tells us:
29:2″ Do the people think that they will be left to say :?We believe? Without being put to the test??

Keep perseverering and trust in GOD to help you. " Serve/ worship you Lord until you attain certainty."

Peace.

w/salaam,

Welcome.

Generally, I have found open questions work better when discussing issues with traditional muslims. And if they show little effort in wishing to read Quran themselves, then there is unlikely to be much progress.

Even though this article is written in an academic style, it really does smash the mainstream Traditional view apart, you may like it:

Welcome Mystical.

I agree, that part of being a seeker of the truth is that we have these thoughts. It is what propels us into the journey. I would rather seek and ask and even have some doubt, than do nothing. I feel these behaviors show you love your Lord, you want to "know" him. Good for you.

I personally have reached the part where I know he exist. I have no doubt. This was not through the Qu'ran as much as it was the world around me. The complexity of things, even the smallest matter. As well as my experiences and hardships within my own life. The below ayah that Good Logic posted is very true.

Quote51:17″ The earth is full of signs ( about your Creator) for those who are certain, and within yourselves. ( your own body and organs) Can you see?.?

I hope you find all your answers. May God being us all peace within our hearts.
