it is by way of questioning do we come to learn.   that's how i came to learn the truth.  i get a lot  from reading different people's perspective, understanding and questioning.

so instead of questioning the person / intentions or reasons why someone is asking a question, why not just answer the question sharing your thoughts and understanding?  if something is bothering me or am struggling with something, i should feel comfortable enough to ask and not put up against the wall for asking.

confused heard things that people believe and she is wanting to know if there is any truth to them.  i am sure there are plenty of people out there wondering the same.  many believing what they hear, some still questioning but are being shot down, slammed by their family, friends, imams for questioning.

Agreed, everyone should feel free to ask questions without fearing anything. Questions must be allowed.. that's crucial to promoting truth. We should all be able to discuss, share and talk about topics in a objective and factual way, without judging each other, and agreeing to disagree.

I have shared my ideas about the "philosophical stuff", and others have explained very well from the quran, so on the whole Confused has indeed received very good answers and directions for further study.

In case Confused feels hurt or misunderstood due to my remarks, I apologize for this as this was never my intent. I wish Confused will take whatever advice have been given in this thread and discover valuable and gladdening information about the quran.

Peace

I was talking to a friend of mine about the veil in Islam. My friend is an atheist, but with a Muslim background and he is quite well informed.

Anyway, I was telling him that I don't believe that the veil is a fard in Islam because it is not really mentioned in the Koran. He responded by saying that the verse in the Koran pertaining to the veil has a story behind it.

The verse is:
?O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.? (Quran 33:59)

.......cloaks close around them!

where does one keep ones cloak? not around them then where else? I thought loose ones are better rather then tight ones around a lady!

But The quran is a great master piece , so what is it talking about? It isn't about clothes , to my understanding.........

......say to the women of the believers not to take it upon themselves to be too obliging (forth coming) in their interactions that more suitable that they should be known and not seen to be advertising- themselves/ not seen to be attention seekers,???

book 1 , page 439. to get a notion of what is Jalaab.Simerlarly check Yadneena from root Dan and , and Yuthaina from root Athan.

But who needs to agree, right! ;)
