38:24    He said: "He has wronged you by asking to combine your lamb with his lambs. And many who mix their properties take advantage of one another, except those who believe and do good works, and these are very few." And David guessed that We had tested him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord, and fell down kneeling, and repented.

38:25    So We forgave him in this matter. And for him with Us is a near position, and a beautiful abode.

Any indication who the person is referred to by the pronouns here?  Is it David or one of the brothers?

In English grammar a pronoun refers to what? It refers to a definite noun mentioned before it. So is in Arabic.

Hi Maveric,

The text appears to be referring to David.  If you question is who is David, my guess is that it is King David.  The more important item to notice is that Allah forgave him.

Peace MaverickMonotheist,

Earlier verses from 38:17-23, God was referring to the prophet David and was tested about the Laws. To me, with these verses God is teaching us that even a king or a leader must follow God and His Laws. But as we can see today, it is not the case of most world leaders.

Peace Joel.
