Salaam Yousef Thanks for your post. I have never really understood about intercession. So does intercession mean praying for someone else who is dead (such as a family member, friend etc)? Is it Ok if we pray for people who are are alive ? Can we pray to God and ask that God guide or forgive people who are non believers? It's my understandingg that praying to dead saints or prophets is idol worship rather than intercession - is that correct?
peace be with you guys as well
LenaI would think intercession would be for those who are ALIVE, not for the dead.
Yes, you could ask for forgiveness for someone or just pray for someone.
You might have overlooked my citations in the original post, here is a revised version and added things
*Children of Israel asking Moses to pray for them (2:61,68,69,70)
*Children of Israel Asking their father to ask for forgiveness for them (12:97)
*Prophet Muhammed Hypothetically Asking forgiveness for others 4:64,
*Abraham promising his father that he will ask for forgiveness 60:4)
*The angels ask for forgivness for believers (40:7, 42:5)
*We are told not to ask forgiveness for the idol worshipers 9:113
*Asking Dead prophets/messengers/saints for intercession is
FUTILE, partly because they are dead, and unresponsive and immobile. They cannot help you. (16:21, 28:65-6)
Student of Allah
well i could derive the Quantity prayer from the Jesus's Teachings
"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:19)
