Peace be upon you,

I am very satisfied with the Timing that Ayman has presented using the signs from the God. But I am still not satisfied with the METHOD, or should I say I am not sure WHAT EXACTLY we abstain from.

The God says that abstaining was decreed on us as those before us, and the examples in the reading only show people abstaining from speaking for three days.

How does this all tie in?

Peace brother Kyle,

Perhaps the first question to ask is what is the purpose of abstinence?

Please let me know what you think the purpose is.

Peace and all best wishes,

Ayman

Peace,

We can only conjecture.  The Koran simply asks us to do it because it is good for us.  Who knows?  God knows.

Salaam,

2:187 It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to go to your wives. They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He accepted your repentance and forgave you. So now, have relations with them and seek that which Allah has decreed for you. And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. Then complete the fast until the sunset. And do not have relations with them as long as you are staying for worship in the mosques. These are the limits [set by] Allah , so do not approach them. Thus does Allah make clear His ordinances to the people that they may become righteous.

This is enough proof to understand what we have to refrain from.

What could be purpose of "Hatta [Until]" for eating and drinking in the above aayat.

May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path  :pr

Quote from: Abdelilah on July 07, 2012, 09:33:26 PMWhat do you think the purpose is?

2:183. O you who believe, the abstinence has been decreed for you like it was decreed for those before you, perhaps you may be forethoughtful.
2:184. A few days and if any of you is ill or traveling, then (abstain) a count of different days; and as for those who can do it with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you abstain it is better for you if you knew.
2:185. A scorching full moon is when the reading was descended as a guidance for people and clarifications from the guidance and the criterion, so whomever witnesses the full-moon, let him abstain it. And whomever was sick or traveling so a count of other days. The god wants to facilitate and not make it hard on you. And so complete the count and magnify the god for what he has guided you and perhaps you would be thankful.

It seems like the purpose is to be forethoughtful. Notice also the emphasis on "guidance". After experiencing this whole process of trying to be guided to the right understanding of the timing, the purpose of thanking the god for his guidance became clear to me.

It is hard to explain but when the whole picture comes together, it is so amazing. Just think about it. One is guided to a better understanding based on the great reading that ties when the great reading was sent down to fasting through a timing that is intricate and not easy to figure out except by pondering on the great reading and the signs of the god in the universe and no way based on tradition and blind following. 2:185 has a much deeper meaning than one would think at first glance.

Thank the god the lord of the worlds,

The word "shahr" according to Classical Arabic dictionaries means "full-moon":

Translation:
Shahr: The moon, which was called this due to it being famous and apparent. And it was said: ("shahr" means) when (the moon) is apparent and nearly full.
