AaRoN

ok this is from a post i made on another forum.

sadly they may require you to be a member before you can view the forums :(

i've decided to step outside the box a bit and post on a forum that will not be so friendly to what i have to say :)

Quoteok, let me clarify the point i was going for. :)

--

in shaa al LlaH wa illa an yashaa al LlaH the following shall be clear.

--

2:2 dhalika al kitab laa rayba fiyHi hudan lil muttaqiyn

2:2 This is the book no doubt in it  - a guidance to the Preserved.

--

the factor i want to point out here is the very same as the factor with which i chose to name this topic: the use of the root k t b, which is an arabic root that denotes that writing is occurring or has occurred. in this case, it is used to describe the Quran as a book, thus saying that writing has occurred.

so here we have one of the first verses one would be exposed to upon opening the Quran, and it refers to itself, and not only that, it is referring to itself as a book.

--

now i direct attention towards those who are of the mindset that the Quran was not compiled in book form until after the life of the prophet and i point out clearly to them that this cannot be the case no matter the source they have claiming the opposite.

if one is a believer in the Quran as the communication from al LlaH through jibr'iyl and onto the heart of the messenger then one must therefore acknowledge the fact that the Quran is here being referred to as a book or written compilation.

therefore it must be acknowledged that the Quran was being compiled in book form as it was being revealed, and not, as is popularly held, that it was compiled at a later date from scraps of writing found on leaves, stones, parchments, bones, etc. - a belief surely propagated by those who are in opposition to the divine message contained within the Quran.

--

if one denies that the Quran was being compiled in book form during its revelation, one must then answer the following:

what right does the Quran have to refer to itself as a book unless it was being written and compiled as it was revealed?

--

evidence in support or against the claim i have put forth here in this exposition will be welcomed, but please be advised at this time that i will only reply to messages which provide evidence of the like which i have provided, and thus the evidence must be supported solely on the basis of the verses of the Quran itself, combined with some knowledge of the arabic and a dash of commonsense thrown in for good measure. :)

--

wa al LlaHu 'alam wa al LlaHu kulli shayin qadiyr :)

--

wa al ssalamu 'alaa man attaba'a al Hudaa :)

--

i would hereby like to invite and encourage those of you willing and able to support me in this endeavour to do so. i'm not sure how long until i will be banned from such a forum, but i can always get a new name and go through a proxy should i decide to remain interested in them :)

any comments or suggestions are welcome :)

Peace be upon you all,

I take kitaab to mean book, or that which is written. But I take "book" to mean the book of Life. We are all writing a book with our lives, the God states He will give the righteous  thier "book" in thier right hand at the end. So this life we are living is a kitab.

There are people who understand the message so well, and apply its teaching so well, that they can shut down all the negative thoughts/emotions/desires in thie heads and hear the God's clear direction. They are called nabi(announcers). There was a man who achieved this level. He announced  what he heard to the people and wrote it down. It was now a book between his hands. Is it a book of truth? How will we know?

(3:3) He descended on you the book(al kitaba) with the truth, confirming to what (is) between His hands, and He descended the law and the proper understanding (torah and injeel, law and proper understanding,  are essential parts of anything claiming to be truth).

Any thoughts?

Salamun,

K T B piece of writing, record, paper: letter, note, message; document, deed; contract; book etc... (H.Wehr)

I don't think "K T B" and a preffered selected meaning is the way to go. My suggestion would be forget what Wehr and possibly the corrupted language says would be to look at how the Qur'an defines "K T B". Infact, here is the verse helps eliminate most if not all but one definition.

[75:17] It is we who will collect it into Quran.

The sunnis are typical in their qualifications on the verses of Qur'an, also they interpolate their preffered meanings to each word for example while we know B-Y-N means both proclaim as well as clarify they will always plump for the latter. Or they will interpolate "obey messenger>>obey hadith books etc."   Hence, I see a proper way of explaining the Qur'an as an exercise to find an example in the Qur'an just like a dictionary and to explain a verse without using qualifications.

One thing I have not found an answer for is the "Thalika" it means "that" as far as I know, meanwhile "Tilke" is "this". To date, I have not found an explanation but it something to note. Its something to be mindful of...
