Salamun alaikum,

Need help from brothers and sisters of free minds to confirm the below translation

Abu Dawud

Book 002, Hadith Number 1100.

------------------------------

Chapter : Not known.

Narated By Sahl ibn Sa'd : I never saw the Apostle of Allah (pbuh) raising his hands and praying on the pulpit or otherwise. But I saw him saying (doing) this way, and he would point with his forefinger making a circle by joining the middle finger with his thumb.

is the word "Praying" in the Hadith is translated from the word "Salat" or "Dua". Can anyone with access to Abu Dawud please confirm.

Salam
23:97-98. And Say: ?My Lord, I seek refuge with you from the whispers of the devils.??And I seek refuge with you O Lord that they should come near.?

Peace,

To answer your question, "yad3u"[du3a] is translated here as "praying".

Another such example is:

Narrated Umayr, the client of Abu Lahm:
Umayr saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) praying for rain at Ahjar az-Zayt near az-Zawra',
standing, making supplication, praying for rain and raising his hands in front of his face,
but not lifting them above his head.
