Peace:

Watched 2/3. Awesome documentary.

The real fallacy of their arguments is that they think in reverse, i.e. they get their stuff 'from the hadith' (eg salat) and then try to use the Quran to justify that salat is 'what the hadith says it is' (note the '').

Well, of course, salat from the Quran may not be the same as 'from the hadith' etc.

I would much rather set out on a journey not knowing the exact path, but going in the right direction than knowing the exact route, but heading in totally the wrong direction.

This, for me, is what the Sunnis, Shias et al represent. So long as you stick to religious instruction from the Quran and avoid blind following of Bukhari, imams, schools of thought, Rashad Khilafah, Layth, Wakas, Ayman etc. you will be fine.

Thanks for the posts all.

The next step (for me) is to check out the roots and context for the word avoid.

The story of pharoah demonstrates Moses showing DIRECT proof of God.

Peace:

Exactly my point. Who else has been shown DIRECT proof of God?

I don't understand why we can't accept that there is no DIRECT proof of God.

The evidence is indirect and based on faith. Isn't this the point of the story of pharoah?

5:90 has been discussed many time here before, but specifically, I wanted to ask the aforementioned question.

Is it 'HIM' because the 'hu' pronoun is 3rd person masculine singular object pronoun which agrees with Shaitan:

Peace Wakas, Youssef:

Thanks for the links.

My understand of 'ramadan' really has evolved (or it could be argued reversed) over time.

Salams!
What a fit mmkhan!
That would make more sense, to put it in the perspective of each person, since that would mean people in different places would fast during different times of the Year ( To say, it would be mostly Northern Hemisphere timing Vs. Southern Hemisphere timing)...

The Quranic version also presumably answers the oft-quoted question about 'what do you do if you are in the Arctic where the sun doesn't set for x months'. I presume the moon cycles are altered up there too, although getting information on Artic lunar cycles seems to be difficult, at least to me!

I have come to the conclusion that the Islamic Ramadan involves a handful of fasts around the summer solstice. I appreciate there are many people who may disagree with this.

However given the first sentence, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of any pre-Islamic (or even post-Islamic [although the history may have been white-washed]) historical evidences of celebrations around the summer solstice.

Yes the book is good, mostly because he actually states the evidence rather than just giving a narrative as poorer books do.

See the evidences of the coalition of ardent monotheists that existed with Muhammad versus the internet trash talk of Jewish massacres by Muhammad etc.
