Hadith Discussions / What if?
December 03, 2010, 02:17:17 AM
What if...we'll just say Bukhari for example, decided not sort through the ahadith and accepted every one he collected?

What if he was stricter and accepted only say...500?

What if he choose a completely different validation method all together and today we had a completely different collection?

What if he never decided to collect ahadith at all?

What if?

I found this question and answer at http://www.zen-deshimaru.com/EN/teaching/questions/question228.html

Question:
"I have the pleasure to write this message to you, because I would like to be informed about the comparison between zen and the Islam. I have wished so much to practice zen, but I have never found a master to learn from."

Answer:
"There is no zen, nor Islam, nor Christianism, nor Buddhism: the truth is the same for everyone, whether we want it or not. This type of complications have been created by humans. They have created sects, religions and churches, to manipulate people and to dominate them through fear and guiltiness. But, when we speak about the soul of zen and the soul of Islam, they are exactly the same, because God is unique and everything at the same time. So, from this point of view, there is no one who could distinguish one self from the others."

An interesting perspective on world religions. Please reply with your thoughts.

I noticed some of the websites in the "Links" section of free-minds.org seem to no longer be active. It might be good to remove these links and add new ones (if anyone knows of any good sites that are not listed).

I came across this site and would like everyone to check it out.

http://www.americanunitarian.org/AUCChristian.htm

A cool group which falls in to the fold of submitting to God alone.

Check out this link. This is from ABC's "Should Americans fear Islam". Reza Aslan really comes off strong against the likes of Franklin Graham and Robert Spencer.

Please watch it in comment.

I was reading about the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and they referred to the discovery of oil as a "blessing" from God for purifying the Muslim holy land with their strict Wahhabi doctrine. I am not saying I agree with this statement but I would like to here everyone's opinion on this statement.

Off-Topic / Off topic legal question
September 18, 2010, 11:56:08 PM
State of California

I have a somewhat hypothetical question. I broke down in the middle of the road on a busy street and had no one to help me get over. Someone eventually stopped to assist me. I put my car in neutral and he pushed me to the side and went on his way.

What I was wondering was if for some reason, he were to have a back injury or anything resulting (or said to be) from assisting me would I be liable? And if that were the case would this fall under my auto insurance?

I have no reason to believe this would happen, just a worrier.

I just finished a Job interview. If I get this job it will relieve a lot of the hardships on my family. The only thing I see in my way is my credit report :& the economy has hit me really hard. Please pray for me.

Thank you.

I am disappointed Faber lost last night in the WEC Featherweight match. Anyone else pulling for him?

Prophets and Messengers / Images of the Prophet
April 26, 2010, 04:01:01 AM
How come so many Muslims get upset about images of Prophet Muhammad (S) but not about Jesus (S)? I thought we weren't suppose to make any distinction between them.

Like with the South Park controversy. The people who are upset didn't care about the visual representations South Park has been making of Jesus (S) Since the 90's.

Off-Topic / Quran Commentary Book
April 14, 2010, 03:23:07 PM
I am reading this book I found on amazon (kindle version) called "A Perspective on the Signs of Al-Quran: Through the prism of the heart" by Saaed Malik. I'm only a little bit in but so far it is a really nice book. The author does seem to have some Sufi leanings but overall makes some really good observations and on the Quran. He uses Muhammad Asad for most of translations.

TRASH / Opps
April 10, 2010, 07:08:03 PM
I was trying to go to the free-minds.org site (at work) just now and must of typed something in wrong because I ended up at an Adult site :o We have restrictions on our internet so I didn't actually see anything, it just said something like, "Blocked due to Adult Content".

Careful typing everyone, you don't want to get caught in awkward situation.

I don't know if there is already a place to do this. If there is I haven't seen it.

I've seen on some sites on the side there is a place where you can make donations through PayPal. I think this would be nice to have the Free-minds.org site. The money could go to publishing for the Free-minds Quran to get higher quality (maybe a pleather cover like Masjid Tucson uses for durability) and cheaper prices.

Just a thought...maybe it can be installed with the chat room  ;)
