from what i learned and worked for me very well:
- be positive and patient, gradually adjust "eat but do not waste". Thank God for what you already have/are.
- no sugar, no sweets, no snacks, no chips, no candy etc - just nutritious meals and enjoy some fruits too - no drinks but water.
- dont cut on breakfast - so you can have the energy throughout the day and enough to jog in the evenings, moderate lunch, less dinner - focus on limiting to half the normal of rice/bread and no fill-ups. I really love heavy breakfast with milk and honey too - I personally find honey (a natural "sugar based" healing to mankind, very nutritious and very good for sore-throat or tooth-ache or mouth swellings too) with milk so pleasing that i dont need anymore sugar-based tea or coffee. some light teas are good without sugar. no sugar - very important!
- jogging 30+ minutes everyday possible - slow pace enough that you can keep on going without stopping and you can talk at that speed - once regular enough you'll be addicted to it and health just gets gradually better, much relief for mind too, especially thanking praising God, glorifying God as watching the beauty of trees, water, sky etc in parts.
