Questions/Comments on the Quran / Quranic Quotes/ Verses.
« on: June 09, 2016, 07:05:10 PM »
Greetings, All!

I was thinking that with it being Ramadan, it would be nice to put some Quranic quotes (not really looking for verses as they might be too long-but I'm open to suggestions!) on my work intranet pages for staff and students (I work at an University).

Ideally, I am looking for quotes/ verses which reflect universal values. I have a number which I intend to use, but would love to hear any ideas!

I've been off work since Ramadan started and I am off for the whole of next week too-with the exception of being in tomorrow morning and early afternoon, so any prompt suggestions would be greatly welcome!

Thank you in advance, folks!

Forum Suggestions / Posting Restrictions.
« on: September 15, 2015, 08:00:38 PM »
I would respectfully like to suggest that the administrators might consider implementing a limited number of posts which a registered user can post.

As someone who doesn't necessarily post regularly but visits the board on more or less, a daily basis, I find it extremely frustrating when a member decides to flood the board with posts of random ramblings. I find this an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am sure others do too.

Liberty is wonderful in theory, but this right requires a level of mutual respect and responsibility.

I suggest any duplicate accounts should be restricted in their entirety.

How many people eat "halal" meat slaughtered according to traditional Sunni methods through wilful choice?

Also, what are the environmental, "moral", "philosophical", et cetera  factors you take into consideration when making choices about what to eat?

Firstly, I must apologise for my incompetence.

Right, so I have a laptop and I have a memory card (it's called an SD card or something, I think) - where on Earth do I stick it in order to access the photos? (Yes, I really am that incompetent with technology!)

Off-Topic / Hopes/ Intentions/ Goals/ Targets For The New Year?
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:05:39 PM »
You may or may not have specific goals or resolutions for the New Year, but if you do, feel free to share.  :)

My very general one, which I have been trying to apply for a while is:

                                                                                     BE HAPPY!!!!!!

Off-Topic / URGENT TECHNO HELP REQUIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: December 26, 2013, 03:46:55 PM »
Right folks,

I downloaded some new 'Apple' software on my phone (5s model). However since doing this I have no idea how to switch off my normal data allowance which I get each month. It used to be as simple as:

Settings > General > Mobile Data > Off / On

However, when I click on "General" now, there is no "Mobile Data" option! I've tried searching for it everywhere but cannot find it. I couldn't find it on the internet (perhaps I'm not using the correct terminology!) Admittedly, I am technologically retarded but my brother also could not find it on there.

HELP ME, PLEASE!!!!!!!!    :'(

Off-Topic / God Gives Life....

I wasn't sure where to post this, but anyway.

I have a cat who is just short of 17 years. I cannot articulate in words what she means to me. She was diagnosed some weeks ago with renal failure and an hyperactive thyroid gland. I have watched Simba coming chillingly close to death over the last two days. Last night was unbearable. It is awful to have to watch her in so much pain. I know that she is suffering and what she has is incurable. For selfish reasons, I don't want to see her die. I cannot fathom not seeing her beautiful, emerald eyes again, but alas, I know this to be an inevitability.

The vet strongly suggested that I have her "put down". However, I strongly feel that I cannot do this for it is God that gives life and it is for God to take life. I just feel like I'm making her suffer and I can end it, but at the same time, I feel like I am playing with a higher system. I feel cruel for the continuation of her pain when I know I could easily end it. There's so many mixed emotions I have but the overriding one is that I can't "put her down".

Discuss Latest World News / The Joys of Yorkshire!

"Yorkshire wins World Travel Awards." I read it online on my way home to York after a trip abroad. Not only that but the county had beaten off opposition from London, Berlin and Madrid to become European destination 2013 at the World Travel Awards held in Antalya, Turkey. Previous winners include Edinburgh, Istanbul and Lisbon. Reading all this, I was, I must admit, shocked, deeply shocked. How was it possible that God's Own Country had not won before? What flagrant prejudice and bigotry had denied the North, South, East and West Yorkshire victory in previous years?Normally such a declaration would come accompanied by a disclaimer stating the writer's affiliations, but I was born in Cumbria and grew up in blissful ignorance of Yorkshire. It was not until the winter of 1994 that enlightenment came. Forced by circumstances to stay with relatives near Thirsk, I began a process of discovery: the magical wilderness of Swaledale, the North York Moors all the way to the coast at Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, Fountains Abbey and the Strid waterfalls at Bolton Abbey. I was hooked. In fact I moved to the county that same year and have never moved away.Over subsequent years I've discovered many other wonderful corners: the Wolds behind Bridlington in East Yorkshire, the farther dales around Tan Hill in the north of North Yorshire and the brutal, beautiful amalgam of nature and industrial detritus that lies around Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire. Then there are the pubs and the beer ? try Galtres Festival in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, for sampling a wide range ? the cheeses (Yorkshire Blue is my favourite) and thewine. Some of my favourite walks, hotels and campsites are in Yorkshire, plus some great beaches (perhaps not with the warm blue water of other places but you can't have everything). There is still plenty more to discover, I'm sure, and there's the Tour de France in 2014. Take it from this outsider: Yorkshire certainly deserves this belated award.
