Questions/Comments on the Quran / 33:72
October 11, 2008, 12:21:47 PM
Peach truth seekers:

Verily We! We offered the trust unto the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it and shrank therefor. And man bore it; verily he was very iniquitous and very ignorant-
33:72 (M. Asad)

What is this trust? Why did the heavens, earth and mountains hide from it? More importantly, why was man a great fool for undertaking it? Is this one of those verses that is stripped of any coherence when translated to English from Arabic?

Quick question

Does anyone know the sura:ayat that goes roughly like this "do you think you will have everything you wish for, when the heavens and earth belongs to god?"

Much obliged

Do you believe that there are voluptuous/full breasted maidens waiting on the believers in the Garden?

And voluptuous women of equal age;
78:33

Do you believe that the Garden is only viewed from a male-heterosexual skewed view and doesn't give any insight or encouragement to women?
55:56, 55:70-72, 56:22-24, 56:34-38.

Is there some meaning being lost in translation, or is it worse than that, is it a complete change of the meaning through translation and there is nothing sexually or superficially related at all (virginal, untouched, large breasts, wide dark eyes)? I would like to know what the women of this forum think about the verses regarding companions and their descriptions and the Garden in general, especially if they are fluent in classical Arabic. Anyone and everyone can comment however, if they have opinions to give and hopefully not reams of Qur'an verses... It is one of the few things puzzling me. Thanks.

All UK people or people with access to Channel 4: There is going to be a documentary about the Qur'an on Channel 4 at 20:00 till 22:00. It should be very interesting but probably nothing new. Hopefully they do not refer to the Hadith nor try to put the Qur'an in a chronological perspective because it bears no relevance in what order they were revealed (I can guess that's a mistake they will make) so lets hope...

Hence, it has been unfailingly true of any community whom We have ever destroyed that they [were people who] would never turn back [from their sinful ways] until such a time as Gog and Magog are let loose [upon the world] and swarm down from every corner [of the earth],
2:196

They said: "O thou Two-Horned One! Behold, Gog and Magog are spoiling this land. May we, then pay unto thee a tribute on the understanding that thou wilt erect a barrier between us and them?"
18:94

Are they some apocalyptic horde that we'll see before the Day? Why are they then mentioned in the present tense? Is it a meaning lost in translation or is it that no one really has a clue?

General Issues / Questions / Islam Expo

Were any londoners or UK people at the Islam Expo at the Kensington Olympia on saturday? Theres a 4 day expo just opening people up to Islam. The bottom floor was more or less selling and advertising companies, business, charities and food. Upstairs was more interesting they had manuscripts of the Qur'an including the Blue Qur'an and the Golden Qur'an. They also had a Qur'an laser printed on a card the size of a credit card and you use a magnifying glass to read it (in Arabic) which I thought was clever. There was also calligraphy and Islamic art. What was nice is that this part of the Expo's focus was solely the Qur'an its characteristics and purpose. I didn't see a mention of Hadith anywhere in that part. I felt at peace there and gained more inspiration to strive to learn Arabic and read the Qur'an.

It was also very good to see so many beautiful, humble muslim men and women, it gave me a different look on the Islamic community because I rarely see so many believers in one place celebrating their culture and belief and most of all being proud and I can understand that Hajj would be so much greater than this, which I understand is why God has advised us to take part in Hajj. It also gave me encouragment that maybe out of these people there are people questing for the truth and not falling into falsehood. I advise people to go to enjoy the food people art and the Qur'an. But my advice is do not attend the concert after, it costs ?10 and is a complete waste of money unless you know obscure talentless singers. The only good part about that concert was the break for sunset prayer and Qur'an recitation. But fortunately that was after the Expo and you didn't have to go.

Anyone gone or planning of going? What did people think if they did?

I was wondering about what people thought about tattoos based on the Qur'an. For example someone got a tattoo of the Qur'anic shahadah on their back would that be considered self-harm or a proclamation of faith? Points made with reference to the Qur'an would be appreciated along with objective opinions.

Hi and Peace

Were Arabs using the word Qur'an before the revelation or did God define the word Qur'an? What is the root word of Qur'an or is it a stand-alone word?

The Gospel in the Qur'an is not the Gospel that is in the Greek New Testament many would refute and say these are the words of Jesus recorded by 4 apostles, Matthew Mark Luke & John. But they were not with Jesus when he was alive and God does not refer to them at all in the Qur'an (if they had the revelation of God they would hold some importance). Just as Moses was given direct revelation, David, Solomon, Joseph and Mohammed where is Jesus' direct revelation? We know it exists, it says so in the Qur'an, my understanding is either it was destroyed and the Christianity that exists today was erected in its place or it was only a recited message that was never written down. Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

Peace and Blessings.

Peace and hello

Please read all the way through before replying

What really is the difference, between a cult, sect or religion? Religion is just an accepted cult, a sect is a division in a main religion or cult. a cult is a collective of common beliefs that is not accpeted or seen as too extreme. Islam is a system, God's system for mankind that is free of any corruption or falsehood, that is why I chose Islam as the way to live my life. But the RELIGION based on God's true system Islam (which occurs in the Torah, the Gospel, the Qur'an and other scriptures we may have no knowledge about) has been corrupted. I used to think it hadn't and the religion based on Islam was pure but like anything that God sends to us about Him we either deny it or assign partners to Him or forbid things God did not forbid and allow things God did not allow. The quest for me is to find the truth, to live my life without hardship, surround myself with those of similar views and to worship God alone.

This is my view on religion and cults and the system of God. I believe a system is just like a system God gives to all animals, just like he tells the bee to go among the flowers, collect nectar, build honeycombs and produce honey; this is the BEE's system. Now human beings being sentient, having free will and many variations in ourselves, the system is more complex, but it exists, and this system includes worshipping God, it is Islam. All animals have their own way of worshipping God, the Bee worships God by obeying Him and following the right path. Every bee does it, because they have no choice, we have choice, but this path is the path of all who obey God.

We as humans need to follow this system to prosper. It's no good us denying our own creation saying, I am self-sufficient, I will die and turn to ash for eternity, we have science, evolution and primordial ooze, we have no need for a God! That is like a toaster turning to its creator saying, "I want to be a hairdryer! I can produce heat, why do I have to be a toaster, I can warm bread if I want, right now I want to warm hair!" Well the creator can say "excuse me I can just pull this plug and you will be no more, I made you a toaster, so serve your purpose". Its the same way for humans, we were created to worship God, many of us deny this system, like the toaster above denies its system, its own existence. This is pure arrogance and is foolish. The system is therefore as such, "You were created, You will serve me, I have sent down revelations to show you how to worship and serve Me, will you not reflect?"

I believe the system of God is very different from religion, religion is man made, there are always esoteric leaders, Imam, rabbis, priests, Popes who teach the people as if the people have no reasoning. As if they can't figure it out themselves. This is where corruption and bureaucracy comes in, people fall into ideas without thinking, they are raised that way, a social, political, emotional dictation is forced on them from birth such that their world is coloured, they can't see it any other way. This is why I turned away from God, why I denied His existence because all religion does is lead to more confusion, sectarianism, extremism, mental enslavement and oppresion. All religions are accepted cults, BUT the systems they are based on are true, the systems of the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur'an. The Qur'an being the only one not corrupted (unless translated) is God's system in its purest form, for all time. It is this that drew me to God, when I understood it is not a religion, a cult following for an esoteric group to pass judgement on other people. It is a system to benefit all mankind, to unify us, forbid what is wrong and do what is right. I belive the Qur'an is the system of GOD that has not been tainted or mutated into a religion. Does anyone have similar views or thing I am talking pure nonsense, or wants to reflect on the idea of religion and the difference I was trying to show?

an idea I came up with is look up the definitions of Religion and the definition of System see which one matches Islam more.
