Archeology & History / Salat pre Quran
June 08, 2022, 10:39:31 PM
Is there any pre Muhammad evidence in poetry or epigraphy of the use of Salah? Or even in Syrian sources I think it'd be cool if we had anything that indicated how the arabs or surrounding people thought about the concept.

Off-Topic / peak oil
February 10, 2022, 09:18:08 PM
What are some opinions of peak oil in the forum?

How do you think peak oil will affect the islamicate identity and politics in the next century? Do you think Muslim lands will revert back to the ways of pre industrial organization or will a new system arise? What would you like to see personally?

peace friends.

Archeology & History / Manuscript Timeline
December 26, 2021, 08:00:19 PM
I've been brewing over several questions related to the history of the muslim people after the prophet's lifetime. I'm not sure how to word them though.

One thing I'm wondering is if anyones ever attempted to construct a timeline of the earliest manuscripts in the 'post-muhammad' community. What is the earliest definitive manuscript that is together? Did people at that time even date their texts? I'm aware of a couple epigraphic mantertial but would like to learn more.

The best website I've found that some of you may be familiar with is https://www.islamic-awareness.org/ which has some great list for sure.

hope all is well. peace.

General Issues / Questions / feelings
December 07, 2021, 11:07:34 PM
peace friends.

I'm not the most frequent poster but I've been lurking for a minute.

I use a couple of quran alone forums and even have a real life friend who is also on a similar path.

I can't help but feel exasperated with so many voices claiming to have definitive understanding of the quran, it's not only that but it's a combination of that and putting other people's down. Like: "oh we know exactly what's what and those who don't just can't use their brains"

does anyone else feel this way? What do you do when you feel like your burning your candle at both ends trying to listen to what everyone has to say but it all comes off as jaded and presumptuous?  I can't help but think there's something deeper unspeakable in the light of the quran and it's teachings.

Sometimes I get anxious about how history is so murky and artificial seeming. Just venting really,

lovin ya'll. peace from California.

wakadhalika awhayna ilayka ruhan min amrina ma kunta tadri ma al-kitabu wala al-imanu walakin ja'alnahu nuran nahdi bihi man nashau min ibadina wa-innaka latahdi ila siratin mus'taqimin

And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is Al-kitabu and not Al-imanu, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed you guide to a straight path -

I'm in the process of trying to understand the nature of 'al-kitab' throughout Al-Quran and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinion on this ayah regarding 'We have made it a light Do you think the 'light' in this ayah is referring to said Al-Kitab or is it referring to Al-iman or is it both?

I'm leaning towards it being both but I'd appreciate any input or ideas.

Any Quran alone Muslims in California?

Coming out of sacramento myself. Not getting a lot of satisfaction having to hide my beliefs in the local masjid.

Would love to brainstorm on how to connect afk.
