Peace to all,

This is a good article, like ive been saying, weve got to get of our metaphysical butts and start taking organized collective action.

Kurt

________________________________________________________________________________________________
When asked what he would do if he had one hour to save humanity, Einstein replied he'd spend 55 minutes defining the problem and five minutes on the solution. We in this country either jump immediately to the solution, thinking we know all about the problem, or we never act because we can't define the problem immediately and begin action. What you're proposing, Mr. Bishop, is nothing less than the discipline of reflection. As we become more of a 140-characters-or-less society, fewer and fewer even realize reflection, honestly thinking about the questions instead of the answers, exists, much less practice it. Learning to reflect, to define the question before jumping to the answer, is life-changing.

This insightful comment reminded me of a wonderful little lesson I learned in a problem solving class some 40 years ago. The puzzle in front of us required a combination of creative thinking and creative action. The exercise was set up so that other participants could provide feedback about problem solving moves but weren't allowed to talk. They could provide feedback in the form of positive encouragement, in this case, applause, when I actually picked up and moved one of the puzzle pieces and did so in a way that indicated a "directionally correct" move.

In this particular puzzle, there were dozens and dozens of possible moves, but only a handful which would lead to a solution -- moves which were directionally correct. I spent a great deal of time thinking about possible solutions while my feedback mechanism, other participants whom the seminar leader referred to as "my universe," remained observant and completely quiet. Absent of action on my part, they had nothing to reward, no feedback to provide.

And so I thought. And then I thought some more. And still the "universe" remained quiet. The seminar leader kept saying over and over again, "The universe rewards action, not thought." I thought some more.

Finally, I picked up a puzzle piece and moved it. Stone cold silence from my "universe," which I confidently ignored and moved some more pieces. Finally, the seminar leader peered in over my shoulder and proclaimed that I was doing a great job of "ignoring my universe." With a little prodding from the leader, I started over with the admonition to "listen" and to recognize that "the absence of feedback, is in fact, feedback."

Something clicked this time around and I got the message. I moved a puzzle piece and heard silence. I moved it back and tried another. Applause this time. I moved another and heard silence once again. I moved one more, heard the applause, and then it all clicked into place. With just a couple of bits of feedback on the heels of taking action, I suddenly saw the solution. I rapidly moved all the other pieces into the solution while "the universe" acknowledged the moves with continuous applause. Had I sat there thinking and thinking, I might still be there. All it took was a little action on my part and the willingness to listen to the feedback.

So what's the point and how does this square with the Einstein quote about thinking for 55 minutes before moving to a solution?

When confronted with a challenge, problem or one of life's many puzzles, thoughtful consideration of possible ways forward are beyond important. Indeed, mindful, considerate and creative thinking are often antecedents to successful outcomes. However, until you're willing to put your butt on the line and take some kind of action, not much will happen other than more spinning of the mental wheels.

It's only when you start to translate your thoughts into action that feedback can begin to show up, feedback that can help you assess your progress and the validity of the solution you have come up with in your mind. Mindful thought is a precursor to mindful action, and yet mindful thought alone is insufficient.

There are undoubtedly many moving parts to this puzzle we are exploring and I can imagine diving more deeply into this in future posts. I'm also pretty sure that the critics out there will be more than happy to pounce on missing elements and please do feel free to share them. However, I would counsel that before finding fault, you might consider spending a mindful moment or two exploring how this notion just might work in real life, and then share your criticism to make the idea even better.

Part of figuring out any life puzzle is determining where you want to wind up, clarifying your ideal or preferred outcome. This might not be such an easy task when you consider how many times you have wanted something, worked hard to get it, and then wound up wondering why you ever wanted it in the first place. If this seems familiar, click on the hyperlink which will take you to an earlier article I wrote about how to clarify what you really want in the first place.

Once you have clarity on where you are headed and have come up with options on how to get there, sooner or later you are going to have to get out of your head and out into the real world. As you move forward with what you think will work, pay attention to the feedback you are receiving along the way. It could be that your initial thought doesn't actually work quite the way you thought it would. It could be that it won't work at all. And it could be that with a few tweaks, you will find your way to a workable solution.

For most of us, getting to the desired outcome will require a combination of clarity on the outcome, creative thinking about options, and then course corrections along the way. Think clearly, act clearly, and then listen to the feedback. One little caveat of course: not all feedback from "your universe" will be there to support you. Some will criticize and attempt to derail you for any number of reasons. You will need to develop some discernment in how you listen, to whom you listen, and what you choose to do about what you hear. Just be careful that you don't wind up tuning out the real feedback because of all the other noise.

Einstein was an incredible thinker, but he was also an incredible tester of his thoughts. If you find yourself unsure of what to do and wind up frozen, perhaps this little Einstein quote will help: "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new."

Think about where you are headed, risk trying something new, and then listen to your universe. Let me know how this strikes you and if you would like to explore this rough idea in more depth.

Please do leave a comment here or drop me an email and let me know your experience.

Peace to all,

Not even the Nazis would have done this,  an international convoy of humanitarians and peace activists have been organizing a flotilla of aid and relief for the  residents of gaza due to the economic stranglehold the Israelis have implemented against the palestinians.  I have been following this free gaza shipment for awhile and supporting their efforts.  Today as the flotilla was still in international waters they were attacked by the Israeli military and two aid workers were killed and many injured.  Israel knew exactly who they were and what they were doing, they have been informed for many months of the dates and times so they couldnt make up lies about self defense.  How can anyone support this, even jews, sickening depraved people, mark my words, Israel will bring the world into world war 3. Recently a united nations body of 183 nations, including the United States signed an agreement declaring in principle that the middle east should be a nuclear weapons free zone, all arab countries agreed to it,  only Israel was against it, only israel is a non signatory member of the nuclear non proliferation treaty, yet only Israel has nuclear weapons in the middle east and most of the world, yet only they can get away with out even declaring that they have them.  Its time the world stopped Israel and demand they either join the rest of the world and follow international legal and humanitarian standards or cease to exist as an independent nation, if they dont, we should organize a UN military occupation of Israel and force them to open up and also liberate palestine.  I have a hunch they will bring the world down in flames around them before they allow this, watch for a false flag attack or terrorist strike somewhere in order to draw the united states back behind Israel and against either Iran, pakistan, od North Korea.  Its interesting to note that about two years ago Germany sold Israel the exact same submarine  and missiles used to sink the south Korean ship a few weeks ago, and North Korea makes their own so it wasnt their weapon used, just as they claimed, so else could have been behind this attemopt to start a major world war, and who benefits?

Peace to all,

First, I am not a messenger or prophet of God, but I do have some questions about some verses in the Quran. IN 14:4 and many other verses the Quran says that GOd has sent or will send a warner to every nation on earth to teach them and warn them in their own language.  It also says that God will not judge a people or hold them to account until they have been sent their warner or messenger.  As many of you may know,  I am the last person you would think would become a Muslim.  I am from a small Native American Tribe in the middle of nowhere, and there is not a single muslim for many miles around.  So I am confused why God has chosen me to find him in Islam and become a submitter/ muslim.  Most in my tribe are some form of chistian/ nativist/ nature worshippers, etc.  Most have no organized religion, and way to many are into drugs , alcohol, and many other types of abuses.   I have been hiding my being a muslim and Islam from my people because I am scared how they will react and treat me.  I also descend directly from the Crane Clan who are the traditional leaders of my Tribe, and my family has always been and still is today the respected leaders of our Tribe, though many today are also corrupt.  So why did God allow me to become a muslim?  Am I supposed to just keep my religion and the Quran to myself for my own personal salvation, or was I chosen and a burden placed on me to share what I know and to help spread Gods message of peace and submission to him in Islam,  I really dont know and I have been struggling with this question for over 5 years now.  I am hoping some of you can help me think through this subject and offer me some guidance and advice.  I will listen to all with patience and respect,  I thank you all in advance.

Peace to all,

Im posting this just for discussion, im not saying its true, but its plausible, the way the western media had turned Neda into the icon of the new revolution in Iran so quickly and effectively made me suspicious immediately.  It does look like she is pooring blood on herself in the video, please watch and discuss.

Peace to all,

I thought this was very interesting, its not about the lone nut cult leader, its about the followers that legitimize him that make the cult.

Discuss Latest World News / Mossad Murderers
February 17, 2010, 11:49:09 PM
Peace to all,

Im sure some of you have heard the latest news, there has been a recent murder of another Palestinian by Mossad, the jewish murder agency, but this time theres alot of evidence to prove that it was an israeli hit, and Dubai is going to issue arrest warrants for these killers.  Im hoping that this recent incident will help expose how sick and devious the Israelis nation really is, these murders can only happen if approved by the prime minister of israel himself, so im hoping they will issue arrest warrants for him too.  This incident may help blow the cover off the fake facade that israel trys to portray and expose them for the sick killers they are.

Peace to all,

I like this article, it shows how many of the most famous inventions were in fact discovered by muslims,  I wonder if theres a connection between the early glory days of Islam and the hadeeth, I have a hunch that the early muslims were more Quran alone types and this helped them learn, question, and explore, and hence make thes brilliant discoveries, and the later years when the muslims stagnated is when they became hadeethist and imprisoned in ritual.

Discuss Latest World News / Jesus Guns
January 20, 2010, 04:07:15 PM
Peace,

America keeps sayng that its wars against muslim countries is not a religious crusade, yet they are all using guns that have secret biblical passages inscribed into the rifle scopes, so when the soldiers are looking throught them at the evil muslims theyre about to kill, they get a little new testament passage from Jesus to remind them what they are really fighting for.

Peace to all,

Ok, I have another silly idea,  in the past I have talked about us setting up a legal corporation about True Islam, but not too many were excited about the idea, had too many questions I couldnt answer, so lets keep it simple.  Why dont we set up a legal organization that has the sole purpose of giving away copies of the Quran, or the Message.  I have three Qurans that I got for free by requesting them but theyre all the traditional interpretations published by some org from Saudi Arabia.  So why dont we do this ourselves, its the easiest way to get the Quran alone perspective out there, and we can print the freeminds web address in the book cover to help invite others here.  All we would have to do is get some people willing to commit some money, any amount to the org, and 100% will be used just to purchase and send out the Message to those who ask for a free Quran, remember the verse in the Quran that says something like  " for free you have received, and for free you should give".  Im willing to contribute a couple hundred dollars to help start out, if we can get enough to contribute we can set up the org with a board of directors to set policy and account for every penny spent.

So is this just another hairbrained idea of mine or does it sound good. Any ideas or comments welcomed.

Respectfully,

Kurt

Peace to all,

I like this organization, they are trying to network and work together with other moderate and reform type Islam groups, maybe we should join this org and use it as a vehicle to get involved and noticed, he is all over the main stream news lately.
