EDIT: "No longer applicable, by the hands of owner"My 40 day Fast and why I was ?missing?.
Peace everyone. First, I would like to apologize that I made people worried. Please let me explain.
1) This was totally God?s plan. I was listening to what God was inspiring me.God has inspired me from the beginning of this year to go around and talk to people in Austin, mostly on the bus and on the street. I had really nice conversations with random people and gave and shared my advice and knowledge. I was semi-homeless, as I was staying in my friends car a couple of days out of the week by choice.
Then In the beginning of March God inspired me to Fast. I thus tried to fast, but then I kept breaking fasting. Then one cold night God inspired me to get off the bus and not eat. I was tired and taken back, so I begged for the command to change. I opened the Quran randomly twice and both times the verse 42:16 came up:
[42:16] Those who argue about GOD, after receiving His message, their argument is nullified at their Lord. They have incurred condemnation, and have deserved a severe retribution.
I was traumatized and in disbelief. I didn?t fully grasp. So I still didn?t listen and stayed on.
So a couple of days later I opened the Quran randomly and the verse that came up was 48:16
[48:16] Say to the sedentary Arabs who stay behind, "You will be invited to face powerful people and to fight them, unless they submit. If you obey, GOD will reward you with a generous recompense. But if you turn away again, as you did in the past, He will requite you with a painful retribution."
And then I opened the New Testament and the random bible verse that came up was (Revelation 2:16)
?Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. (Revelation 2:16)
So I decided to listen to God again. God then inspired me to go to the woods and fast (from food only, not water). It was around a 40 day fast. It was a 30 day fast, then I was allowed to eat, then I was inspired to go back again to fast for 10 more days (that?s when all this commotion happened).
(God did give me a sign of how long the fast was going to be, around 40 days. One sign was that just before doing it, I randomly walked by a holocaust survivor biography(?) at Barnes & Noble, and it was about this female survivor who spent 6 weeks in a concentration camp. I picked it up and it said that her experience during these short 6 weeks changed the course of her life and made her into a better person, for which I can now relate to. The other signs was of course the 40 day fasts of Jesus and Moses from the Bible.
When the 30 days were up, God inspired me that I was allowed to eat and I went back to my friend?s car. I knew in the back of my head that this was over or God is going to add 10 more days (Think Moses 7:142)
[7:142] We summoned Moses for thirty* nights, and completed them by adding ten.* Thus, the audience with his Lord lasted forty* nights??
I told my friend to be patient with me for the next couple of days, like 10 days, but he would not listen. He later decided to drop me off at the park because he couldn?t keep me in his car at his property.
God inspired me to ?Go!?, even though I was already taken back and tired.
God inspired me not to take my stuff with me either. I was taken back even more, but from experience I knew how mysterious God works. I thought,? thus says the LORD!
I was weak and I didn?t think I could survive. So I stopped my friend and opened the Quran, and again the same verse came up (42:16) and also (32:21)
[42:16] Those who argue about GOD, after receiving His message, their argument is nullified at their Lord. They have incurred condemnation, and have deserved a severe retribution.
[32:21] We let them taste the smaller retribution (of this world), before they incur the greater retribution (of the Hereafter), that they may (take a hint and) reform.
Thus I went and knew that I was going to survive and come out alive.
God is merciful. Little did I remember that God inspired me before to leave clothes in my old camp. So I had clothes to keep me warm Thank God.). God never burdens a soul beyond it??s means (23:62 and 1 Corinthians 10:13)
I am so utterly thankful to have gone through this! One verse that stood out to me from the New Testament as an encouragement while I was going through this was Hebrews 12:5-6
?In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son?
It says, ?
My son, do not make light of the Lord?s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.? (Hebrews 12:5-6 NKJV)
This verse stood out to me and encouraged me to keep going. God is doing this for my own benefit. God was disciplining me, and I sure did learn a lot. God is Good and I knew as God has inspired me from before that ?If you want to be a Hero, do what God tells you to do?.
The fast was itself was challenging. I was not hungry at all, but I was thirsty. I went down probably to 96 pounds. I looked like someone that came out of a concentration camp. I suffered through the heat, thirst, rain, cold, and through being underweight. But hey with pain and discipline there is gain, plus I knew my time was not up yet, I knew I was going to come out alive.
On the 38th day, I had a dream of someone giving me a certificate of ?You are a guide?. I didn?t make too much of it, but maybe it will represent something later.
The commotion: God is doing everything! My friend felt guilty that he left me in such condition, that within 2-4 days he made a big commotion and stated that I was missing and made a search party. (The irony is that I left my friend for 25 days and he did nothing, but yet when I left him again, he made a commotion within the next 2 days?
God is running everything!)
In any case, I am thankful, because the commotion made effected many people and brought people together, family and friends and distant people, God willing hopefully for the better. I am so thankful.
When I think about it now, many things experienced I could parallel back to the Quran and the bible. Sometimes God?s system doesn't change but reoccurs (48:23). I tried to cite verses that are relevant.
What I learned from this experience:OBEY GOD!:
When God commands you to do something, Do it. Don?t whine. Don?t debate with God!
[42:16] Those who argue about GOD, after receiving His message, their argument is nullified at their Lord. They have incurred condemnation, and have deserved a severe retribution.
Humbleness:
We are God?s servants. As a servant to his master, be subservient and Humble.
When you are like a walking skeleton and your voice dwindles to that of a toy, you will know how fickle you are. Be Humble!
Stop being angry and exalted. Humble yourself
We are sinners:
we are sinners. We are not perfect. Ask God for forgiveness, for protection against sin.
Ask in humbleness: Read the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14)
Prayer:
Cry out to God, Ask and you shall receive!
we are beggars, and so beg God.
Be sincere and ask God.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7)
[40:60] Your Lord says, "Implore Me, and I will respond to you. Surely, those who are too arrogant to worship Me will enter Gehenna, forcibly."
[27:62] Who is the One who rescues those who become desperate and call upon Him, relieves adversity, and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is it another god with GOD? Rarely do you take heed.
Loss of fear!:
Fear none but God!
I learned that God ought to be feared. God is able to do anything. Make God your shield and protector!
When Moses and his people were being pursued, they were dead-ended at the sea, but Moses was confident of God. God split the sea for them. If God, the Almighty could save people from fire (21:69), split the sea into two (26:63), and save people from their distress (27:62), then he can save and protect you. Fear none but God
[3:175] It is the devil's system to instill fear into his subjects. Do not fear them and fear Me instead, if you are believers.
[3:173] When the people say to them, "People have mobilized against you; you should fear them," this only strengthens their faith and they say, "GOD suffices us; He is the best Protector."
?Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell? (Matthew 10:28)
?Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.? (Acts 5:29)
How does God inspire me?
Currently, most of my inspirations are from birds? calls. I understand the calls as if they?re language. Most I understand as if they are short commands.
?Go now!? ?Get ready!? ?Go back!? ?Get up to Pray!? ?Go to sleep right now!?
The other way is through any other sound I hear; At certain times I understand sounds as if they are language, when God wants to inspire me, I understand, otherwise, sounds are just sounds.
P.S: If you think that I?m making this up or that I?m crazy after reading all of this, know that God works in mysterious ways and that God does show his signs, wonders, and miracles to people with certainty in their belief (2:118).
[2:118] Those who possess no knowledge say, "If only GOD could speak to us, or some miracle could come to us!" Others before them have uttered similar utterances; their minds are similar. We do manifest the miracles for those who have attained certainty.
