Questions/Comments on the Quran / Re: Fasting - at the poles?
« on: July 08, 2014, 12:02:34 PM »
I'm in Seattle, our dawn/dusk time is about 18hrs.  Its been fun  :yeah:

I would consider anyone who sincerely wants to be held accountable for their actions as an adult.  In my family, that's about 10yrs old.  At that point, we call our sons/daughters young men/young women.  Psychologically speaking, development isn't (complete) until mid-20's, but that's late-enough to have already been conscripted to military service, start a family, and graduate college.

To any minority in US, commit a crime as a 16yr old and chances are you're being charged as an adult(I have a few family members who this happened to) even though legal "adulthood" is at 18.  To many people, the concept is very fluid.  It changes depending on the subjects of reference (the person and what action you're referring to).  To me, it is not fluid.  If you are biologically capable of having children of your own(or at an age where it is common to be able to but had some traumatic experience) then you are an adult and have to be accountable for your actions, like having children.

'Lower the gaze and do not stare at the women' has become the opposite 'stare at the women to check they are dressed appropriately so they are not guilty of attracting your gaze'

That's a golden quote.  And true. I have a friend, who's Anglo-American non-Muslim, and she lived in Egypt for 1.5yrs.  She said she's never been a more mean person in her life than when she lived there due to constantly raging at men that harassed her.

I agree.

Am just disappointed that someone would give up after a short-time here just because she seemed to find it difficult that people all thought about being closed-minded, rather than free-minded, lol.

I recently was introduced to Hawk House, and I love their music.  It's like the type of hip-hop/jazz infused stuff I like from digable planets and a tribe called quest, but modern.  They had a new album come out this week.

Here are their two albums, both are a little over a half hour and really good.

Hawk House-A Little More Elbow Room

Hawk House-A Handshake to the Brain

Also, they're from the UK.  I'm giving love to more UK artists from the States.

If USA manages to win this game they have to make a statue for Howard. At the moment (86th minute) they are still 0-0.

Even though we lost, Howard is still a hero. He's probably the most memed athlete of the moment here.  Without him, we would've lost like 8-1.

Welcome, Indiana!

I too had problems with the 189738972398 supplications I was told to say when I reverted.  Now, I don't really say any of them, but I see their purpose.  I think they're supposed to keep you mindful of Allah in all that you do.  But if you can do that w/out saying a specific pattern of words, I don't see the issue.  That's how I feel about it anyway.

Germany just won.  I'm gonna take a break from work with 3 fasting coworkers to watch the USA game tomorrow.

Salaam brother,

Why do you need a so called call-sign of yours to be Arabic or Islamic for Nikah or whatever? :hmm
If your name is Joseph or Krishna or Mathew or Khan or Ravi or anything, that is fine for your wedding. :yes

May Allah bless you and make things easy for you :pr
I'm also confused as to why you'd need one.  I didn't read anything about it in the Quran.

Why do people need to think alike, was the name of the website 'free-minds' confusing?

I take the "free-minds" as meaning being critical of information and taking an active role in your learning/interpretation of things.  I expected to find similar thinkers in that respect, and I have.
