Peace Fadiva,

do you have a translation of this article ?

The chapter in the link is based on the original posts in this thread (same author). Maybe not an exact translation — the link has also some additional information/insights from discussions in this thread and others on this forum — but it is mainly an Arabic version/translation of the article (see original post).

Also, only the first three chapters of the book are available in English for now (see my signature).

Best regards.

Just an appeal to all those who were spouting conspiracy theories or minimizing the threat of Covid-19 to be more cautious next time. I suspect that many have lost trust in the mainstream media, and rightly so. But understand that exchanging MSM for charlatans on YouTube isn’t the way to go.

If you want to stay informed there are many alternative, independent and critical news sites with good investigative journalists and political commentators. A sample:

Current Affairs* / Democracy Now! / FAIR / The Grayzone / The Intercept / Jacobin / Media Lens / Truthdig**

* watch for articles by Nathan J. Robinson (editor in chief), possibly the best political analyst today.
** watch for articles by Chris Hedges.

I also highly recommend reading some books by Chomsky; you might learn a thing or two from his approach to thinking about political, social and moral questions.

Did you read his book? If so what did you think?

Stopped reading after only a couple of pages in.

The prophet frowns. God intervenes.
The prophet forbids what is allowed. God intervenes.
The prophet wants to cater to the polytheists. God intervenes.

Hadith & Akyol:
The prophet becomes a mass murderer, an enslaver of women and children, a pedophile... o, it was just a thing they did back then.

I already had a sense this book wasn’t going to be for me when I read in the introduction: “Ultimately, I have become convinced that a fundamental need for the contemporary Muslim world is to embrace liberty—the liberty of individuals and communities, ..., markets and entrepreneurs.”

But I continued anyway, until halfway through chapter one: “Arabs in the seventh century also tended to reach adulthood at an earlier age than Westerners do today.”

Peace Asifzaheer,

Read some books:

Ten Myths About Israel - Pappé, Ilan [192p]
The Ethnic Cleansing Of Palestine - Pappé, Ilan [320p]
Plowshares Into Swords - Mayor, Arno J. [432p]
The Iron Wall - Shlaim, Avi [704p]

Or anything by Norman G. Finkelstein or Noam Chomsky about this topic.

The coming 6 months I’ll be traveling through Indochina. I’d like to meet up with members from Thailand, Laos, Vietnam or Cambodia. I’m not yet sure whether I’ll be heading as far south as Malaysia and Indonesia.

I’m male, 35/36 years old, and I am from Belgium (with Moroccan roots).

Questions/Comments on the Quran / Re: Who Created God?
« on: September 22, 2019, 08:48:24 AM »
Peace NK,

How do you guys tackle this question?

If the god created everything, who created the god? How can it be no one?

What is north of the North Pole?

Of course, children (and sometimes adults) will be perplexed by this question.

The answer is that the North Pole is what defines “north” for us. Therefore, the question itself is meaningless.

It is the god who created and defined the concept of “creation” itself and what it means to us. Our knowledge about the concept of creation is what he willed that we know:

2:255. ...and they do not envelop/know a thing from his knowledge, except with what he willed...

As a result, we can only comprehend some of the god’s attributes through what he tells us about himself in the great reading.

If I want to learn about you and hear what you have to say about yourself, for example, what you like and don’t like, then the best way is to ask you and not ask somebody who never saw or met you.

Nobody else other than the god can tell you absolutely true information about the god. That is why it is important to study the god’s written words, the great reading, and learn Arabic. It is also important to study the god’s unwritten words, which is the natural world that he created, by learning science, math, etc. at school. With this purpose in mind, everything that you do serves the god.

I wonder why the god created me.

The god created you and me, and every human to serve him:

51:56. And I did not create the fantasies and the humankind except to SERVE ME.

Our purpose in life is to fulfill the promise we made to serve the god:

36:60-61. Did I not entrust/make a covenant with you, Adam’s descendants, that you do not serve the devil, he truly is for you a clear/evident enemy, and that you SERVE ME, that is a straight path?

If the god already knows who is going to heaven or hell, why doesn’t he just put them there? If the god already knows I am going to do a bad thing tomorrow, how can I not do it? Why will the god punish me for it?

Think of it like a story where you can choose among several paths what happens next.

The god is the author of the book called life. He already created and knows all possible endings and paths. We only get to choose which path to take. The path of serving the god (the straight path) is the only path that leads to a happy ending.

If we could read ahead to the ending of the story, we would all select the path that leads to a happy ending and avoid the one that leads to a sad ending. People who choose the wrong path do it not because of the author but because they are not reading the story correctly.

The great reading is like a “cheat sheet” that tells us about the endings and helps us choose the path that leads to a happy ending and avoid the many paths that lead to a sad ending.

Democracy Now!
The Grayzone
The Intercept

Noam Chomsky (subreddit)
Norman G. Finkelstein (official website)

** watch for articles by Chris Hedges.

Off-Topic / Re: Missing text, partial or full. It needs to be fixed.

Peace admin & mods,

This is a real problem. Not only are some posts missing, many post have sentences missing or whole paragraphs. I then have to log in and quote the author to see what’s missing (like Sardar showed), WHEN I suspect something is missing (because it’s not always obvious).

See for example this post and the following two.

There are thousands more.

Please fix this. Thank you.

Peace rh,

Were you thinking that the locations are very specific right away, or that people who are somewhat close can chat for a bit, and then mutually agree to show their precise location if they so wish?

The latter of course. I wouldn’t want people to have to give up their precise location and throw it online, just the town/city.

Anyway, I tried and had some offers. But I also had some time to think about the idea. And to be honest, the whole map thing now just seems stupid.
