A group of people chanting incantations they don't even need to understand and adopting various physical postures. So now they do this in a mixed sex group. So what?

According to traditional Islam, the men are supposed to be in the front and the women behind (or in a different room, if it's a mosque).  If it's mixed then the men will be distracted, I guess.   ;)

So women cannot get distracted looking at the men in front of them?

@ Samia

The posters are a mixture of quraan aloners and traditionalists, and none of them was against it. One decided that he wont let his family join in such a prayer because this prayer (congregational or Eid) is not obligatory to women. Another said that it's well organized in the sense that families are together. Some compared it to the prayer in Makkah. So no much opposition, or no rejection at all.

Actually i rarely get headaches, maybe once or twice a year not even. what i mean it less stress.

Men do have it easy, today in society us females need to be superwomen whilst men just get on being themselves.

Anyway in my household men have it better.

That is unfortunate, men and women should be equal. There are somethings that men can do better than women, but there are also many things women can do better than men

it's not exactly about equality. it's about social conformation through socially constructed norms. guess it is a shame though i'm dealing with it.

Yes but people still maintain them. even if on a global scale it may seem it is changing, in closed doors things happen differently.

besides even if they are changing new constructions will be made and will form. it's not necessary certain that it would be better

The main poster says it is a congregational salaat, others say it could be the eid salaat. No one says it's an ongoing thing, maybe that's why some say it is the eid salaat; but surely not everywhere. I think this took place in Alexandria.

Why separate families? There is no order in the Quran to create DIVISIONS between the believers.. Quite opposite actually
9:107 And there are those who establish a temple to do harm and cause rejection, and to divide between the believers, and as an outpost for those who fought God and His messenger before. They will swear that they only wanted to do good, and God bears witness that they are liars.

Quoteyes they can be distracted too, thats why women are also required to lower their gaze
This requirement is for both, men and women.

God made men and women live together in a family.. Family is a mini model of the society. Male and female - it's all about balance. By separating male and female we create imbalance. If person's intent is to pray towards God, then the person will do that. And if that person is just showing off, but inside is not really believing, then of course he will get easily distracted. Because he does not have a goal ;) Muslims are all brothers and sisters to each other. So in those pictures I see  brothers and sisters turning together towards God. If you think this is forbidden.. Well it is your choice and freedom to believe so :) May God bless you :)

Incorrect. Americans are not extremists.
There are 300,000,000 Americans out there and i'm marrying one and i have several friends who are Americans.
What about the poor Americans, the orphans Americans, the homeless Americans, of which some fought in Vietnam, what about single parents in USA, are they extremists?????

I think it's the US government your're angry at and you shouldn't be - rather fix it.

Glory be to The Lord.
Peace.

Peace,
Respectfully.

Peace.
