Happened to read this today, pretty good, weakens a little towards the end but its possible a mainstream Traditional Muslim may not be so objecting to its content:
http://khalifathullahmehdi.info/articles/hadith/About-Hadith.pdf

The associated website has various articles also.

Also came across this today, interesting:

peace all,

Sometimes I have noted errors occur on this forum page, e.g.

fails to load
error occurs after post submitted
states guests are banned (so it does not allow you to log in)

I'm not sure if it just me but if anyone has issues like this message me. Refreshing the page often works but if not, to resolve this issue you can delete cookies for this website then reload it. This worked for me when it was an issue.

peace all,

I am surprised this is not common knowledge but here are some very powerful tips:

At first symptoms:

1) gargle with any mouthwash that contains cetylpyridinium chloride, twice daily, 7 days.

2) nasal rinse with 1% baby shampoo (or 1% iodine) diluted with water (water must be boiled then cooled), twice daily for 5 days. Or use a nasal spray product made for colds/flu.

3) Daily supplements: Vitamin C, D and zinc. 7 days.

The above can lower your symptoms by up to 70% according to the research.

Recent interview. Also discusses hadith, seemingly looking to curtail their influence/application. Differentiates between "mutawatir" and "ahad" narration (see my previous post).

Actions speak louder than words however. We'll see to what degree this happens (I doubt much reform will happen in this area).

A short summary of this work.

Authenticity of prophetic hadith: a pseudo-problem, by Wael Hallaq

You can read it here or here (click links).

Most debates about hadith are if they are authentic or not / if they are true or not, i.e. did the prophet say or did it, or not?
Hallaq essentially points out that this issue, as debated by most modern scholars, is not really a problem, it's a pseudo-problem. He argues, this is because the vast majority of Medieval Muslim scholars have already settled this matter because they did not regard "sahih" to imply "certain knowledge" / "truth" but only "probabilistic" information. In other words, they took "sahih" hadith to convey something that has a probability of being true.

This was because almost all hadith in sahih collections are "ahad" narrations, meaning they stem from a single narrator in the isnad (chain of transmission), or perhaps at most several different narrator sources.
This was in contrast to "mutawatir hadith" which represent many narrator sources for the same narration, i.e. lots of separate sources narrating the same hadith. How many is "lots" depends on the scholars, but must be at least 5 or more. This is likely related to Quran's criteria of 4 witnesses to establish something definitely happened before a court of law, e.g. in the case of adultery.
Only "mutawatir hadith" were considered to be on the level of certain knowledge.

Various famous scholars undertook research to find "mutawatir hadith" and came up with at the very most 9. Only one is agreed upon by all scholars apparently, and that is "He who intentionally lies concerning something I [the Prophet] have said will gain a seat in Hellfire".

It should be noted that the term "mutawatir" and its relation to hadith is a later invention, hence the Medieval scholars involved in this discussion. More info here.

#####

The above doesn't really help us because Traditionalists will simply argue if a hadith is likely true then it is better to follow it, but the main point of bringing this information up is to highlight "sahih" does not mean "true/authentic" even in Traditional Islamic studies.
"sahih" more correctly means "sound" as in the isnad (chain of transmission) is considered sound. That does not mean the content is sound or true etc. Many scholars make this distinction but I feel this has not filtered out into the mainstream.

One of the most published medical doctors in the world speaks out against the medical response to covid-19. This is the best breakdown I have seen by someone highly credible:

peace all,

Rate: $100 usd +100 (see below)

Compile a list of all the Quran based islam sites you can find, arranged under categories such as: websites, blogs, forums, YouTube channels, Facebook pages/groups etc. English language only. You can add non-English sites if you wish but these should be separated/highlighted.

Once done please send me this list via personal message. After it is briefly checked it will be published here for others to check, and for each site you have missed $1 will be deducted from your $100 rate. This $1 will go to whoever adds missing sites to your list (if they wish to be paid). Or you may opt for it to be donated to a charity of your choosing. Proof of donation will be provided in that case.

Payment via paypal, cryptocurrency or western union or other money transfer service.

Reason behind project: I think such a resource could be helpful and doing it this way provides a way for a community member (or members) to earn some income.

These verses discuss a change in "qiblah". My question is simple:
what was the test The Quran speaks of in these verses?

The relevant parts are highlighted in red:

2:142 The foolish from the people will say: "What has turned them from the qiblah/focal-point which they were on it?" Say: "To God is the east and the west, He guides whomever He wishes to a straight/establishing path."
2:143 And as such We have made you a balanced community so that you will be witnesses over the people, and the messenger will be a witness over you. And not We made the qiblah/focal-point which thou were on it except that We make evident he who follows the messenger from he who will turn back on his heels. And indeed it was certainly a great (thing/test) except for those whom God guided; And not was God to let go waste your belief. Indeed, God is over the people Fully-Kind and Merciful.
2:144 Indeed, We see thy face/consideration/purpose shifting/moving fee/in the sky/heaven; so We will surely turn thee (onto/to) a qiblah/focal-point that will please thee: so turn thy face/purpose/consideration in the direction (of) al maSJD al haram and wherever that you are so turn your faces/purposes/considerations in its direction and indeed those who have been given the writ/decree know that it is the truth from their Lord. And God is not unaware of what they do.
2:145 And even if thou come to those who have been given the writ/decree with all signs/evidences they would not follow thy qiblah/focal-point, and nor will thou be a follower of their qiblah/focal-point, and nor some of them are followers of each others qiblah/focal-point. And surely if thou were to follow their desires from after what came to thou of the knowledge, indeed thou would then surely be among the wrongdoers.
2:146 Those to whom We have given the decree/writ recognise it like they recognise their sons; and indeed a group of them surely hides the truth while they know.
2:147 The truth from your Lord, so do not be from the doubters/disputers.

Please note, that for my question it is not really relevant what you or I think "qiblah" is, or what "al masjid al haram" is etc

For those that don't know Mufti Abu Layth is a more open-minded Traditional Muslim and a strong critic of Hadith/Bukhari (his "Bukhari gate" series is very good):
