Discuss Latest World News / Boycott Intel
January 09, 2009, 01:31:23 PM
QuoteINTEL

Intel are one of the biggest supporters of Israel. Their very first development centre outside the US was opened in Haifa in 1974. Since then they have continued pouring investment in to Israel.[2] By year 2000 they employ over 4000 israelis. Exports from their Lachish-Qiryat Gat plant in israel (opened feb 99) total $ 3 million a day at peak capacity - approximately $ 1 billion a year. [1]

Al-Awda (Palestine Right to Return Coalition) have pointed out that the Intel plant at"Qiryat Gat" is built on land Israel confiscated from the Palestinian villages of Iraq al Manshiya. Iraq al Manshiya was a village of 2000 people living in 300 houses with two mosques and one school. The original Palestinian inhabitants were terrorised out of the village and then the whole village was razed to the ground to prepare the way for the new israeli settlement of Qiryat Gat. Today the remaining population from Iraq al Manshiya is still not allowed to return.[4][5][6]. Legal action against Intel for building on looted land is being considered [7].
Im a big fan of Intel but Im changing to AMD soon because I dont wanna own a 'blood diamond'.

I dont support it. I mean come on, do they actually want a place to pray or a place to show off and provoke their non-Muslim German population? I know Germany is a secular, liberal and civilized country but most Germans are normal human beings with natural human sensitivity. I doubt the construction of a mega church will be accepted in any Muslim country without backlash from certain portions of its Muslim population either.

If all they need is a prayer place, just make something simple and spacious in accordance to the size of the Muslim population in the area who actually go to mosque regularly.

An Islamophobe pointed out to me that Quran 18:74 promotes honor killing and to be honest it seems kinda true. So is it?

Hamas ready to accept 1967 borders

Hamas has said it is ready to accept a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders but "will not recognise Israel".

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Khaled Meshaal, the exiled Hamas political leader, reaffirmed Hamas's stance towards Israel and clarified his comments as relayed earlier by Jimmy Carter, the former US president.

Meshaal said: "We accept a state on the June 4 line with Jerusalem as capital, real sovereignty and full right of return for refugees but without recognising Israel."

The Hamas leader was making his first public comments following two meetings with Carter in Damascus last week.

Carter, speaking in Jerusalem earlier on Monday, said that Hamas had told him it would accept the right of Israel "to live as a neighbour" if a peace deal was approved by a Palestinian referendum.

Carter said Hamas leaders had told him they would "accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders if approved by Palestinians".

But Carter also said Meshaal turned down his appeal for a unilateral ceasefire with Israel to end violence threatening peace efforts.

"I did the best I could on that," Carter said of his failure to persuade Hamas to halt rocket fire from the Gaza Strip it has controlled since June last year when it ousted the Fatah movement of Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president.

Referendum

Carter said his understandings with Hamas called for a referendum to be preceded by reconciliation between the group and Abbas's Fatah faction.

In his news conference, Meshaal said Hamas would "respect Palestinian national will, even if it was against our convictions".

Sami Abu Zuhri, a Gaza-based Hamas official, said Palestinian refugees living in exile must take part in a referendum - a condition that could dim the chances of approval since Israel opposes their mass return, which could skew the state's ethnic make up.

Ghazi Hamad, a former Palestinian government spokesman, told Al Jazeera that Hamas would be willing to accept a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders (leaving a reduced Israeli state inside its 1948 borders) but insisted that Hamas would not recognise Israel.

"Hamas says frankly - we will not recognise the right of Israel," he said.

"Israel until now has no clear position on recognising the rights of the Palestinian people within the 1967 borders or the right of return or the rights in Jerusalem."

He also said that a ceasefire with Israel was possible.

"Many times Hamas has stopped firing missiles from Gaza but Israel continues its aggression against our people, especially in Gaza," he told Al Jazeera.

"If Israel stops all military aggression against our people, I think Hamas will have no problem in reaching a compromise."

Carter criticised

Carter's meeting with Hamas has drawn criticism from both the Israeli and US administrations.

Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, has refused to see Carter, who has for years been critical of Israeli policy towards the Palestinians.

Carter, who helped negotiate a 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, said excluding Hamas is "just not working".

"The problem is that Israel and the United States refuse to meet with these people, who must be involved," he said.
This man is nuts. With this kinda mentality Palestinians will remain stateless until the end of days. Very stupid demand.

Austrian Province Bans Mosque Construction

Demonstration in Cologne, Germany.

# Ian Traynor in Wangen, Switzerland
# The Guardian,
# Thursday October 11 2007

An Austrian province run by right-wing firebrand Joerg Haider passed a law on Tuesday effectively banning the construction of mosques. The legislation in Carinthia requires plans for any building of "extraordinary architecture or size" to be approved by a commission to judge its compatibility with the standard look of towns, meaning mosques would stand little chance of permits.

"We are really the pioneers on this and I can only recommend to all to have the courage to stand up effectively against this Islamisation that is creeping through Europe and represents a totally different culture," Haider said on Austrian television on Tuesday.

In a statement, the government said Haider's rightist Alliance for the Future of Austria party had won approval for the bill from mainstream conservatives, who are part of Austria's national government led by Social Democrats.

Carinthia's Social Democrats, who opposed the law, called it a populist stunt because no one had ever requested permission to build a mosque in the overwhelmingly Roman Catholic province.
"We are creating a law for something that doesn't exist," provincial Social Democratic leader Gaby Schaunig said.

Omar Al-Rawi, spokesman for Austria's Islamic community, said the legislation violated principles of equality and religious freedom and put Austria's reputation on the line.

Immmigration from the Islamic world has surged in Austria since the 1990s. But Carinthia has the second-lowest share of Muslims among all Austrian provinces, about 11,000 out of an estimated 400,000 population, community officials say.

Haider became known internationally in the 1990s with remarks seen as xenophobic and playing down Nazi war crimes, as the rightist Freedom Party he then led rose to become the second biggest in Austria.

After an internecine power struggle, Haider broke away from the Freedom Party and founded the Alliance in 2005. But his new party's national impact has been negligible since he decided to focus on his home region of Carinthia.

Female Referee Removed From Officiating Boys' Basketball Game by Religious School

ANSAS CITY, Mo ?  Kansas activities officials are investigating a religious school's refusal to let a female referee call a boys' high school basketball game.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association said referees reported that Michelle Campbell was preparing to officiate at St. Mary's Academy near Topeka on Feb. 2 when a school official insisted that Campbell could not call the game.

The reason given, according to the referees: Campbell, as a woman, could not be put in a position of authority over boys because of the academy's beliefs.

Campbell then walked off the court along with Darin Putthoff, the referee who was to work the game with her.

"I said, 'If Michelle has to leave, then I'm leaving with her,"' Putthoff said Wednesday. "I was disappointed that it happened to Michelle. I've never heard of anything like that."

Fred Shockey, who was getting ready to leave the gym after officiating two junior high games, said he was told there had been an emergency and was asked to stay and officiate two more games.

"When I found out what the emergency was, I said there was no way I was going to work those games," said Shockey, who spent 12 years in the Army and became a ref about three years ago. "I have been led by some of the finest women this nation has to offer, and there was no way I was going to go along with that."

Shockey noted that referees normally don't work Saturday games, but he agreed to officiate because his daughter's basketball game slated for that day was canceled.

The Activities Association said it is considering whether to take action against the private religious school. St. Mary's Academy, about 25 miles northwest of Topeka, is owned and operated by the Society of St. Pius X, which follows older Roman Catholic laws. The society's world leader, the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, was excommunicated by Pope John Paul II in the late 1980s.

Gary Musselman, the association's executive director, said the organization will not make a decision until it confirms whether St. Mary's Academy has a policy of not allowing female referees to work boys basketball games.

If that is indeed the school's written policy, Musselman said, the association could decide to remove St. Mary's Academy from the list of approved schools and take away its ability to compete against the association's more than 300 member schools.

St. Mary's Academy officials declined comment when contacted by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

St. Mary's Academy is among 30 schools on the list that are not full association members but compete against schools that are. Musselman said St. Mary's Academy plays one or two games per season against member schools but has no more scheduled this school year.

He said if removed from the approved list for next school year, St. Mary's Academy still would be able to compete against approved schools that are not members of the association.

Musselman said the association hopes to resolve the matter sometime this week. He said he sent a letter to the school's principal, Vicente A. Griego, the day of the incident but has not heard back from him.

Putthoff and other supporters of Campbell said they believe state activities officials will handle the situation properly.

Campbell did not return phone calls seeking comment Wednesday.

However, she told The Kansas City Star that she was "dumbfounded" by the incident but that she is not angry at the school. She said she does not want the situation to go any further than it already has.

"This issue was going to come up eventually," said Campbell, 49, a retired Albuquerque, N.M., police officer who now lives in Ozawkie, Kan. "I just happened to be the person who was there this time.

"It's kind of a sticky situation. It needs to be looked at carefully, slowly, with all the facts."

Putthoff said he has called games at St. Mary's Academy off and on for 10 or 12 years, but doubts he will officiate at the school again.

"Out of defense to Michelle, I'm probably going to decline to go back there," he said. "We have to support our fellow officials."

Campbell, one of about five female referees in the Topeka Officials Association, has been officiating games for about two years.

"We don't support any institutions that would discriminate against any of our officials," said Steve Bradley, president of the Topeka group. "We support Michelle 100 percent.

"Michelle works hard. She cares about what she does. She is not a person who's on a crusade. She's a good person. She's a good official. You will not find a person who's more serious about doing a good job than Michelle."

Musselman said this was his first time dealing with a situation in which a school turned away a referee because of gender.

"We view officials not as male or female, Hispanic or African-American or Asian-American. We view officials as officials," Musselman said. "Discrimination against our officials is something we can't be party to."

Still, he said, the association wants to be fair to everyone involved and gather all the information before taking action.
Imagine if this was in any way related to Islam. Im sure it would have been all over the news.

So Im having a discussion with some Indonesian Christians who complain that they always congratulate their Muslim friends on Ied Al-Fitr but they rarely get the same treatment on Christmas in return. So they say that they understand that Islam forbids congratulating other religions' celebrations and go on praising how Christianity is more tolerant because Christianity on the contrary encourages them to be nice to everybody. Therefore, Im just wondering if the New Testament actually supports their claim?

So anyone (Probably the ladies) have any advice for me? I have heard about laser resurfacing and stuff but its price makes me lose my consciousness  :D.

Spain arrests terror plot suspects

Fourteen people suspected of planning an attack in Barcelona have been arrested, said Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, Spain's interior minister.

Rubalcaba said police raided five addresses in the city on Saturday and arrested 12 Pakistanis and two Indians after receiving information from its own and other European intelligence agencies.

He said police found explosive materials with the suspects and more arrests were expected, with the country put on high security alert.

"Here we are looking at something different: a well-organised group who were going beyond ideological radicalism to acquiring materials to make explosives and therefore eventually to carry out violent attacks."

Bigger threat

Spain's interior ministry has said that it regards Islamist groups, rather than ETA, the armed Basque separatists, as Spain's greatest security threat and has significantly beefed up surveillance of mosques and employed more Arabic translators in the last four years.

The ministry's enhanced measures followed Europe's deadliest Islamist attack in March 2004 in which four Madrid trains were bombed, killing 191 commuters and injuring about 1,800 people.

Twenty-one people have been convicted of involvement in that attack.

In September 2004, 11 Pakistanis were arrested in Barcelona, accused of planning attacks in the port city.

All were cleared, but three were jailed last year after raising money destined for "terror" groups, while two others were found guilty of forging documents.

Since the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington, Spanish police have arrested hundreds of suspects, many in connection with the Madrid attack.

In recent years Spanish police have also focused on cells suspected of recruiting mujahedeen fighters and suicide bombers, or of collecting money to finance al-Qaeda-linked groups abroad.

Idiotic 72 sluts seekers like these make me so angry. What is actually the problem of these terrorists? What exactly Spain has done? They have pulled out of Iraq. And they do not arm Israel either. It seems these scum just love to create enemies and make the lives of the majority of Muslims in this world more miserable.

Im having a debate in a forum with Indonesian Sunnists and when I told them that stoning to death does not exist in Al Quran they insisted that it does. And later they replied that according to a hadith from Umar, the verse concerning stoning to death did exist but was erased by Muhammad. However, even though it had been erased it still has to be practiced because it once existed in Al Quran ...

Upon hearing this I felt like I was struck by a lightning because that was the very first time I realized that the Sunnists do indeed lack common sense. I think Im going to withdraw from the debate because I feel very sad and disappointed with the state of my fellow Muslims. I really have lost faith.
