A point worth noting is that a reason why some people were able to acquire a lot of wealth is because of the benefit they bring to a large number of people with their products and services. For example, Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates which still runs about 75% of laptops and desktop computers worldwide:

How many billions does one need to live?
Or what does one  need billions for then?

Say I have 10 billions  and I give 5 billions to charity I will still have 5 billions so who will not be able to do that easily?

We should think twice before assuming one of the richest men in the world has our or anyone s best interests in mind.

Is it not morally wrong to have billions while one is aware that a lot of their fellow humans are hungry and homeless ?

Or may be because I do not have billions ,I am saying this?

Thank you Lord for not making me a billionaire,or even a millionaire.
I am happy with what my Lord has provided for me, and I will gladly share it .
GOD bless you all.
Peace.

Regardless of the amount, the fact is that he did not have to do this, but he did out of choice. Not all billionaires would want to readily give away more than 50% of their wealth with the same level of dedication.

Not so sure about that.

He started The Giving Pledge which promises to donate more than 50% of his wealth and encourages others to do the same:

Something I noticed is that successful people are often more career or business-minded and they work hard in creative ways, although they may not always be so humble. Less successful people are often busy with more immediate issues they consider more important, like raising children and supporting a large family.

Some extremely successful or wealthy people like Bill Gates are very humble and generous.

It is no longer available at that domain, however it can still be found here:

The domain may change in the future. If so, I will update in this thread.

Why do you think it would be wrong to work for a bank?

If it's because they deal with interest, then that's a slightly different question.

Quote from: Sarah on July 04, 2021, 02:32:03 PMCan you point to examples in the Qur'an where we are taught to be strong and assertive in everyday life?

This verse comes to mind:

"Oh you who believe, stand firmly for justice for the sake of God, even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your family. Whether they be rich or poor, God is their Sustainer." (4:135)

I believe the principle of justice/kindness applies to all people including ourselves. We should value our own lives as well as the lives of others. Sometimes valuing our own lives can set an example to others.

As for this brother aqua,quote:
"The verse (6:19) does not say 'comes after' at all. It says 'whoever it reaches' without implying a future tense."

Are we not discussing Qoran? So it has reached us and we are in the future of its time!
it does imply the present of that time when it was sent and the future after it.Your copy of Qoran testifies this truth.
GOD bless you.
Peace.

The verse refers to the Prophet using the Qur'an to warn others while he was alive. The obvious meaning is the present of that time, not the future. Stretching this to include the future would be an unjustified extrapolation.

Quote from: good logic on December 25, 2020, 03:48:01 AMThere is a difference  between GOD s commandments to all generations and rules /regulations/instructions  how to lead day to day life of particular generations.
Or are you saying "do not kill  an innocent person" is an outdated command?
Also GOD catered for all generations: Or does GOD only send messengers/scripture to the past generations?:

Statements like 'do not kill an innocent person' may form a principle or moral which can be universally understood and applied in modern times. This is different to specific rules or instructions which are time-bound and context-specific.

QuoteGOD has made sure to move with the times like you say  and sent Qoran to "supersede/replace " older scriptures. , What replaces Qoran for you now if you say its commands are outdated> Or do you pick and choose ? Or where is today s scripture from GOD?

Without a contemporary scripture, we can still derive principles, morals or wisdom from previous scriptures without taking them literally. This is not restricted to only the Qur'an.

QuoteQoran is clear that  it is a scripture for all generations from the prophet onwards:
Say, "Whose testimony is the greatest?" Say, "God's. He is the witness between me and you that this Quran has been inspired to me, to preach it to you and whomever comes after you. Indeed, you bear witness that there are other gods* beside God." Say, "I do not testify as you do; there is only one god, and I disown your idolatry."
!Wa Man Balagh"   Whomever comes after and reaches them -all the generations after that time!-

The verse (6:19) does not say 'comes after' at all. It says 'whoever it reaches' without implying a future tense.

You're talking about assumption but you're the one making the assumption that the Quran is not timeless. You have no proof of that.

5:48
And We have sent the Book down to you in truth, confirming that which is between one's hands of the Scripture and as a Criterion over it. So judge between them by what God has sent down and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We made a law and a method. Had God willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good. Your return is to God all together, and He will [then] inform you concerning those [matters] in which you used to differ.

Well the verse you just quoted even shows that laws in each scripture were for specific times. If there is no new scripture, we can still take principles and wisdom from previous scriptures.
