Some of the verses were linked to personal life of Mohammed, but i think were not correctly explained as per traditional narratives, Quran has verses that are either religious ones or they are more of motivating the people to support the leader or prophet which are poltical, not many verses were personal, except when needed a law or transition from older beliefs.
About the surah on AbuLahab, The character involved may be referring to some old biblical character, theres an article i read, linking with Abu'l-Ahab and his wife Jezebel. Or it could refer to some character like Lucifer.
