Post by: FJR on November 15, 2014, 02:15:23 AM
Here's a glimpse of sexual harassments in Manhattan (New York) the USA streets:

What do you think about it?

I am more concerned about this because my country, Turkey is becoming like America of the ME.

Thanks.

All of them were not sexual harassment. Its common in US to say good morning, good evening, etc to a passersby. That said, she attracted the comments with her clothes. Here in west coast, even the women make comments on skimpy clothes and that is also loudly. Even I did not as a harassment but surprise.

Once in winter, one of my friends went "its 46 degree outside and look what she's wearing". It was about an international student who was wearing extremely skimpy shorts. Another time when I was getting out with my fiance from school I saw this umm, i dont know what to be honest and i went loudly "is that a towel she is wearing?"

But what is shown in the video is one of the reasons why some women wear skimpy clothes. They actually feel happy when they hear such things. Its harsher in India. Men over there start singing and even following the women no matter what they are wearing. According to a lawyer, it happens because in India it is thought that any girl who dares to go out alone is a bad girl.

You americans are bunch of weirdos. Since when "I lick p***y" and "I just saw a 1000 bucks" is not sexual harassment?
If someone say something like this, for example to my mother, sister, gf etc.. I would open his head.  >:(

It just came to my mind that some women actually like those kind of comments because they have distorted view on beauty and love.

But I must say that American workplaces have strict dress code and sexual harassment can get a man in big trouble in the office unless he is the " dominating master" there. Eve teasing is common in places where people are less educated. This is the universal truth and if we just look at the men shown in the video we won't find them different from the eveteasers of the east. Only thing is that these men are saying the stuffs in English.

Maybe true, but when same woman was walking in hijab nobody said nothing, they were not even looking at her. Educated or not, men will show more respect to covered women than those who are not. Just look at the video that I have posted.

:nope:

Women's modesty does not guarantees protection for sexual harassment.
I notice in the hijabi part, I can hear the sayings from the background, they just didn't add their words as subtitles.
My mother wore head covering and loose clothing once (her clothing covers more than what average women wear in my area) while walking on the street. She got whistled and degrading comments from the random men. Women no matter what they wear will get harassed and belittled by men who don't see them as humans.

If they did this experiment in Egypt, India, and other countries with high sexual harassment, the reaction of hijab and non-hijabi will be full of whistles and derogatory, sexist comments because these men sees women as objects to control and to fiddle around with commenting.

hiyab does nothing to prevent harrassment on the long run favours it, by making it a burden on the woman that men shoudl respect her. If it is her business then they are authorized to do anything. It is so plain, that it has ntohing to do with women dress... If men are respecteful they they are respectful, it depends on them not to harass theyrefore they do not harass any woman, If they are not, then a woman is not safe from harassment because dress is merely a pretext to make the burden ont he woman.

It just depends. I know for sure that in countries like Pakistan and India, it doesnt matter what the woman is wearing. She will get harassed anyways. Bangladesh has taken a strict action against it by making it a rule to arrest those who do this kind of stuff. But again, from travelling experience I can say, uneducated people all over the world are almost the same. Its just that their languages differ. I saw the worst in UAE though! The male teens there got wilder.
