The word “Jinn” is mentioned 32 times in the Glorious Qur’an, and is mostly used to describe a species that seems to co-exist with humans on this planet.

While there are many articles and theories written about what exactly these beings are, the speculation ranges from spirits, to aliens, and even to being references to man’s own different characteristics and moods.

The purpose of this article is to attempt to discover the nature of Jinn from the Qur’an with an application of reason and evidence.

“The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom God has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.” (Qur’an 39:18)

What Does Jinn Mean?

The word “Jinn” is used in the Arabic language and the Qur’an to describe that which is “covered/concealed,” for example, in 6:76 we read:

“When the night covered him (Jana), he saw a planet, and he said: “This is my Lord.” But when it disappeared he said: “I do not like those who disappear.” (Qur’an 6:76)

This same word “Jinn” is given to beings which we are told were created by God serve Him, but are, by nature of their description, hidden from us:

"I did not create the Jinn and the humans except to serve Me." (Qur'an 51:56)

Jinn Created Before Man, From Fire

We are told in the Qur’an that the Jinn are an “older” species that have been around long before mankind and were created from a different composition than mankind: "And We have created man from a clay hardened and shaped. And the Jinn, We created him before that from the fire of the fierce hot winds." (Qur’an 15:26-27)

"He created the human from a clay, like pottery. And the Jinn He created from a smokeless fire." (Qur’an 55:14-15)

In the story of Satan, we have much evidence that the Jinn were both alive and aware before the creation of Adam and his mate and that it was Satan who drove the opposition to this new creation:

“And We said to the angels: “Yield to Adam.” So they all yielded except for Satan. He was of the Jinn, he disobeyed the order of his Lord. Will you take him and his progeny as allies besides Me, while they are your enemy? Miserable for the transgressors is the substitute!” (Qur’an 18:50)

Jinn Travel Space

We are told in very clear terms in the Qur’an that this “older” species not only had dominion of the Earth, but was also able to spread itself to distant planets and galaxies:

"And we touched the heavens, but found it full of powerful guards and projectiles. And we used to sit in it in places of listening, but anyone who sits now finds a projectile seeking him." (Qur’an 72:8-9)

“And We have adorned the lower heaven with lamps, and We made it with projectiles against the devils; and We prepared for them the retribution of the blazing Fire.” (Qur’an 67:5)

“O assembly of Jinn and mankind, if you can penetrate the boundaries of the heavens and the earth, then go ahead and penetrate. You will not penetrate without might.” (Qur’an 55:33)

What are Jinn Made of?

The Qur’an tells us in several verses that the Jinn were created from “fire” whilst Adam and his kind are created from “clay.”

“He said: “O Satan, what prevented you from yielding to what I have created by My hands? Are you too arrogant? Or are you one of those exalted?” He said: “I am better than he; You created me from fire, and created him from clay.”” (Qur’an 38:75-76)

“And We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the angels: “Yield to Adam;” so they yielded except for Satan, he was not of those who yielded. He said: “What has prevented you from yielding when I have ordered you?” He said: “I am far better than him, You created me from fire and created him from clay!” (Qur’an 7:11-12)

While we know that humans are not physically composed of mud/clay, but rather the chemical composition of clay/mud being: (Water + Carbon + Minerals + Nitrogen + Phosphorous + Matter.) Similarly, it would make sense if we ask the same question for Jinn: “what is the composition of a flame?” we would get the following: (Carbon Dioxide + Water Vapor + Oxygen + Nitrogen + Matter.)

It would seem that humans and Jinn are chemically not that different, especially when it is pointed out that both have “Water (H2O) = Oxygen + Hydrogen,” and both have “Carbon” and both have “Nitrogen” and both have “Phosphorous” and both have “Matter.”

What Does the Qur’an also Say?

Now that we can see that the composition of Jinn maybe similar to that of humans (i.e. organic creatures), it is time to look further into the Qur’an for potential clues that may confirm or refute such understanding:

“And We have given to Hell many of the Jinn and mankind; they had hearts with which they did not understand, and they had eyes with which they did not see, and they had ears with which they did not hear. They are like hoofed animals; no, they are even more astray. These are the unaware ones.” (Qur’an 7:179)

“And among us are those who submitted, and among us are the inequitable.” As for those who have submitted, they have sought what is correct. And as for the inequitable, they are firewood for Hell. And those who remain on the right path, We will provide them with abundant water.” (Qur’an 72:14-16)

“In them are those with a modest gaze, untouched before by any human being or Jinn.” (Qur’an 55:56)

“Consorts, inside grand pavilions. So which of the favors of your Lord will you deny? No human being has ever touched them, nor Jinn.” (Qur’an 55:72-74)

Clearly, the Qur’an is confirming that the Jinn are “organic beings” that require water, have eyes, ears, and hearts – and, more importantly, have the ability to have sexual relations with the same compatibility levels that humans have…

Jinn Are Stronger / More Alert

Possibly due to their different composition of having extra “Oxygen” (CO2) in their bodies, the Jinn are clearly figured in the Qur’an as being stronger and physically able to perform many tasks and feats – and that humans would seek help from them.

“And there were men from among mankind who used to seek help from the men among the Jinn, but they only increased them in sin.” (Qur’an 72:6)

He said: “O commanders, which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?” A powerful being from among the Jinn said: “I will bring it to you before you rise from your station. For I am strong and trustworthy.” (Qur’an 27:38-39)

“They (the Jinn) made for him what he desired of enclosures, and images and pools of deep reservoirs, and heavy pots. “O family of David, work to give thanks.” Only a few of My servants are thankful. (Qur'an 34:13)

So – Who Are the Jinn?

By this stage, we have gone away from the traditional understanding of energy and spirits and ghosts and little green men hiding out of sight. We have shown that the Jinn are a species of organic humanoid, similar to humans in many ways (eyes, ears, heart) – including the ability to have sexual relations, however, this is an older and ancient bloodline.

In the history of this world, humans (Homo sapiens) have been found to exist upto 300,000 years at the most aggressive estimates (, however, there is an older intelligent humanoid species that has been found in existence for over 2 Million years on the Earth and, and the evidence shows, this humanoid had the ability to create fire and build tools…

Homo erectus

“H. erectus males and females may have been roughly the same size as each other (i.e. exhibited reduced sexual dimorphism), which could indicate monogamy in line with general trends exhibited in primates. Size, nonetheless, ranged widely from 146–185 cm (4 ft 9 in – 6 ft 1 in) in height and 40–68 kg (88–150 lb) in weight.

“ H. erectus is credited with inventing the Acheulean stone tool industry, succeeding the Oldowan industry,[88][89] and were the first to make lithic flakes bigger than 10 cm (3.9 in), and hand axes (which includes bifacial tools with only 2 sides, such as picks, knives, and cleavers).[90] Though larger and heavier, these hand axes had sharper, chiseled edges.[91] They were likely multi-purpose tools, used in variety of activities such as cutting meat, wood, or edible plants.[92]

"H. erectus is credited as the first human ancestor to have used fire, though the timing of this invention is debated mainly because campfires very rarely and very poorly preserve over long periods of time, let alone thousands or millions of years. The earliest claimed fire sites are in Kenya, FxJj20 at Koobi Fora[97][85][98] and GnJi 1/6E in the Chemoigut Formation, as far back as 1.5 Mya,[85][98] and in South Africa, Wonderwerk Cave, 1.7 Mya.[99] The first firekeepers are thought to have simply transported to caves and maintained naturally occurring fires for extended periods of time or only sporadically when the opportunity arose. Maintaining fires would require firekeepers to have knowledge on slow-burning materials such as dung.[85] (

Whilst it becomes obvious that such intelligent beings that have the ability to develop tools, control fire, and live in groups can only be a Salient Being – and not an animal, the question that begs itself is: ‘What Happened to H. erectus?”

What Happened to H. erectus?

According to the science, H. erectus went extinct around the same time that H. sapiens appeared on this planet:

"The earliest undisputed ancestor of modern humans, Homo erectus, likely survived up to at least 117,000 years ago, before going extinct when the environment in its last refuge changed from woodland to rainforest, a new study suggests.” (

What is striking is that the Qur’an not only describes these ancient beings that existed before man, it also tells us that they are still alive and well, and cannot be distinguished by the common eye:

“Say: “It has been inspired to me that a group of Jinn were listening.” They said: “We have heard a magnificent Qur’an!” (Qur’an 72:1)

"O Children of Adam, do not let the devil afflict you as he evicted your parents from the paradise; he removes from them their garments to show them their lusts. He and his tribe see you from where you do not see them. We have made the devils as allies for those who do not believe." (Qur’an 7:27)

Indeed, this is a revelation not only in science, but a revelation that two separate but similar species exist side-by-side with one not aware of the presence of the other!

Different Groups of Jinn

Although we have the negative episode of Satan (the Jinn) who vowed to destroy mankind, it should be pointed out that the Jinn follow different paths of faith, with some being submitters and others being rejectors:

"And among us are those who are good doers, and some of us are opposite to that, we are in many paths. And we acknowledge that we cannot escape God on Earth, nor can we escape Him if we run. And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. So whoever believes in his Lord, then he will not fear a decrease in reward, nor a burdensome punishment. And among us are those who submitted, and among us are the compromisers. As for those who have submitted, they have sought what is correct. And as for the compromisers, they are firewood for Hell." (Qur’an 72:11-15)

  • If Jinn have been with us since the beginning, how can we identify them?

If we look at the physical construct of H. erectus remains, we find that the bone thickness seems to be markedly greater than that of mankind:

“The cortical bone (the outer layer of the bone) is extraordinarily thickened, particularly in East Asian populations. The skullcaps have oftentimes been confused with fossil turtle carapaces,[76] and the medullary canal in the long bones (where the bone marrow is stored, in the limbs) is extremely narrowed (medullary stenosis). This degree of thickening is usually exhibited in semi-aquatic animals which used their heavy (pachyosteosclerotic) bones as ballasts to help them sink, induced by hypothyroidism. Male specimens have thicker cortical bone than females.[77] (

It could be speculated that, since these beings have a higher Oxygen composition that H. sapien, that gives them more strength and firmer bone structure than the average human. This feature has been discovered accidentally in some people, with science assuming it is a genetic anomaly:

“Back in the 1990s, a seemingly ordinary man was involved in a car crash so serious that it should have shattered many of his bones. Yet the radiologist who interpreted his X-ray studies could not find a single fracture. And this wasn’t all. The radiologist also noticed that the patient’s bones were unusually dense – as it turned out, eight times normal density” (

  • If Jinn are humanoids, how can the Qur’an speak of them “touching the heavens” and being able to eavesdrop of the higher lifeforms?

Humankind has been around for a maximum of 300,000 years and have created technologies that allow limited space travel and high levels of computing and communication. If we accept that the Jinn are over 2 million year old, then that would give them a factor of x10 in technology over humans, meaning that they may have created the means to travel into space, establish colonies, and reach the outer limits beyond what we think is possible.

That these beings were extremely advanced at the time of the creation of Adam could very well explain how Satan was there amongst the Angels when the command was given to “yield to Adam” (part of an exploration group that had reached the outer heavens and established contact with Angels and other sapient beings). The creation of humankind blocked the access to the outer heavens, but not before Satan asked for reprieve and that he be given a chance to live until man’s judgment day.

That this special group of beings holds itself in secret and plots against humanity in general rings of the stories that deal with the “Illuminati” or other special groups that rely heavily on bloodlines and only support each other…Is this the modern day Jinn?

  1. Jinn were created before mankind over 2 million years ago to serve God;
  2. Jinn are humanoid beings, who look very similar to modern man, but have a slightly different composition (making them stronger and more durable);
  3. Jinn developed technology and travelled the universe, but became aggressive and began corrupting the Earth;
  4. Jinn representatives were present when God spoke to the Angels about passing the dominion of the Earth to mankind;
  5. Jinn opposed God's judgment and Satan pleaded with God that he be allowed to remain as an immortal on Earth so as to prove that mankind is unworthy;
  6. God granted Satan's request, with restriction on the movement of Jinn to this universe only;
  7. God will judge the Jinn on judgement day as He will the humans (heaven or hell);
  8. Jinn receive messengers from their own kind;
  9. Jinn camp is has been split between those who submit to God and those who insist on Satan's way;
  10. Humans who rely on Jinn are usually being misled.
