Salam everyone,
This is gonna be a brief and a short analysis on the mistranslation as well as the misunderstanding of the word KAFIR in the Quran by God's willing.

Right off the bat, I want you to pay attention to the use of disbelievers in these contexts where the arabic word used is Kafir and its derivatives.

"And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers." 2:34

"These are they to whom We gave the book and the wisdom and the prophecy; therefore if these disbelieve in it We have already entrusted with it a people who are not disbelievers in it." 6:89

"And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming that which was with them - although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved - but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah will be upon the disbelievers." 2:89

You can see how the "disbelieve" means in its context: "Disobedience in an intentional way" as in  the first verse, "Rejection afer knowledge" in the second and "Denial/Rejection after recognizing" in the third..

Now before jumping up on conclusions, let's examine this second set of verses where the arabic word used is literally: Not to believe and its derivatives.

"Surely the Hour is indeed coming up; there is no suspicion about it, but most of mankind do not believe." 40:59

"And say to the ones who do not believe, "Act according to (Literally: do according to) your situation; surely we are (also) acting" 11:121

"But indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviating from the path." 23:74

and last but not least, in this last verse where both the two different arabic words 'Kafir in its derivative" and "Not to believe in its derivative"  are gathered together :

"Surely, the ones who have disbelieved, it is equal to them whether you have warned them or have not warned them, they do not believe" 2:6

the disbelieved word is Kafir's derivative and the "do not believe" is the "do not believe" arab word.

I believe that, at this point, Kafir and the not-to-believe-er=disbeliever are clearly two different things in your mind. I'm not gonna go ahead and give an exact definition as its well understood and the difference between someone who doesn't believe and someone who is Kafir is very clear.

Now, before you fellow Muslim brother/sister consider calling someone a "Kafir", make sure you know that he reconized God as the God and decided to go against Him (in the same way Iblees "the devil" did)..otherwise a disbeliever i.e non-believer is the one who..you guessed it, doesn't believe.

Thank you for reading !

General information about those who have disavowed the Creator?veiled the Truth is that:

: : This verbal sentence comprising of third person masculine plural perfect verb and subject pronoun referring the Relative pronoun is the linkage clause. Its Root is: ك ف ر. Basic perception infolded is that of concealing, veiling, covering, hedging and denying to acknowledge a fact or favour.

The point to determine is as to what have they denied to acknowledge because the predicate of sentence reveals it is not related to denial of Grand Qur'aan and the exalted Messenger Sal'lallaa'hoalaih'wa'salam?

This has been discussed before here, many times..
KUFR = Covering / Hiding (something).
In this context, those who try to hide the truth / tell lies to cover up the truth / deceive others..
