Qurban..

Selam everyone :),

Recently I had a conversation with my partner... and we have come to a slight disagreement about the tradition happenings of Qurban. They believe that they do it all with the right intention of sacrificing in the name of God and appreciating the food. I simply replied "I understand your believe and respect it :)". The thing is my view is very different. Ever since I was younger, I NEVER agreed to what people were doing on Qurban, which, to be honest, is very similar in the sense of Christmas... many many turkeys are slaughtered, and on Qurban many many sheep are slaughtered... The reason I have never agreed to this 'mass slaughtering' even if people proclaim it is to sacrifice in the name of Allah is because the story of Abraham's sons (quite sure that was the story in the Quran) where the son was ransomed for a great sacrifice (please correct me if I am wrong as this is from memory). I do not take this meaning at ALL to mean that WE are meant to be sacrificing animals on a specific day. Also, when I read the verse in the Quran (forgive me for not recalling the number) "Do not kill without reason".. this is talking about any being with "Ruh" and animals have "Ruh" as well... which the other person justified saying the reason is to appreciate the sacrifice. I might be misguided with this, and may Allah forgive me if I am... but I just feel it to be highly unnecessary to take part in this Qurban... and I can't bring myself to want to. If anyone can give me any verses from the Quran to help me back up my understanding with clear cut evidence, as I'm not the most knowledgable person yet when it comes to the ACTUAL words in the Quran, but God willing I am seeking the straight path as well as I possibly can we help of The Creator's guidance :).

Thanks guys :).

Peace :peace: :D

Salaams

22:34   And for every nation We have established rites that they may mention the name of God over what He has provided for them of the animal livestock. Your god is One god; submit to Him and give good tidings to those who obey.
22:35   Those who, when God is mentioned, their hearts reverence, and they are patient to what befalls them, and they hold the bond, and from what We provide them they spend.
22:36   And the plump livestock, We have made them for you to be among the symbols of God; you will have benefit in them. So mention the name of God upon them in succession; then, once their sides have become still, you may eat from them and feed with them the poor and the needy. It was thus that We have made them in service to you, that you may be thankful.
22:37   Neither their meat nor their blood reaches God, but what reaches Him is the righteousness from you. It was thus that He made them in service to you, so that you may glorify God for what He has guided you to, and give news to the good doers.
22:38   God defends those who believe. God does not love any betrayer, rejecter.

Selam Shirin,

Is this not specifically to do with the actual hajj event? How can we relate this to Qurban... i.e. the day where masses of slaughtering occurs. Any other views from others? I was reading this article here.

Thank you Farida, as I thought.. since all verses ARE from al-hajj.... what is your view on Qurban... is it still the same as the last time you posted on my thread ;): I quote "Campare it to those butchers who drag animal on Eid Qurban; a day of celebration and slaugher it in the name of merciful. :'(". I also agree with this :), however, just wish to use verses to point out why Qurban is excessive in what actually goes on... excessive in the sense of my opinion of 'unnecessary slaughtering' or killing without reason...

Peace and selam :) :peace:
