Salaam Arifa,

You poor soul, you should come stay with me-it's a parents and family free zone! I have been extremely fortunate my mum has never been like that. I guess I was fortunate, in a sense, because she was an Atheist, hence never forced religion on me.

And mashAllah, is that you on your avatar? You are a beauty! I notice (if that is you) that you're wearing a sari with midrif showing. Does that mean your mum objects to the Qur'an Alone approach, but not with traditional Indian dress? I am also from the subcontinent, but I could never wear a traditional sari because from my understanding it doesn't conform to the dress code God has decreed for women. And besides, as "liberal" as my mother is, she would have my guts for garters too! (Sorry, I'm not telling you off! I apologise if I come across as doing so!)

Peace

welcome aboard! noticed how people who question wanting to know the Truth, somehow come to see the Truth.

i just returned from my trip to India.  came to the united states at age 10yo.  am now 40 years.  i remember as a child questioning and wondering about traditions, practices, rituals, etc.  spent the  past 20 some years reading/learning.   i came to learn the Truth about islam and now see from the outside.   wearing a burqa is a big deal back home and i took a stance.  not only that but had my hair down.   well, you can only imagine how i was looked upon and what was said.  i asked show me where in the koran God says to wear a burqa?   i asked my relatives what is hadith?   that's the problem, people don't know what the koran says or know the history of hadiths.

it brought smiles to my face when my cousin leaned over whispering in my ears to send her english translation of the koran.  only way to fight ignorance is with knowledge.  at least one person in the crowd heard and wants to know the Truth.   well, more than one person did.   :yay:

Salams and thank you! :) Wow, you really went through alot! Yes when people want to learn the Truth, they will be shown the way. There is a saying: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it" :) Have a good day!  :sun:

Salaam Arifa,

It's so funny that you mention this girl is a South Indian actress, because I had assumed it was you and thought you looked South Indian. I think South Indian women (and men  :P) are beautiful, mashAllah!  ;D

I live in England. I am supposed to be moving to Morocco, but I did think about working in Singapore a year or two ago, perhaps we could do a house swap instead!

I am Punjabi with a teeny weeny bit of Gujerati mixed in for good measure.

I love 'Om Shanti Om'. It reminds me of driving on the G.T. Road, through the fertile land of the Punjab, listening to 'Dard'e-Disco'. I love the songs in 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' too, but I can think of one in particular from there which I thought was a bit debateable:  'Tujh Main Rab Dikhta Hai'-the title I thought was a little here and there and then he said "sajdeh main sarh juktha hai" and I thought, I'm sure this is not allowed. I did love that song though. It can be a little frustrating because my name is Sajda and I get people singing the same song to me from 'My Name Is Khan'- 'Tera Sajda'- saying they want to do sajda to me. I always tell them off! Haha, I've gone off on another rant with you-I feel like I keep telling you off! I'm turning into my mother, sorry! Who, by the way you will have the great pleasure of metting if we do this house swap!  ;)

Anyway, if you like 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' and the actors, then you will like Anushka Sharma too. Chameli and I were discussing Anushka Sharma in Chameli's thread. We seem to have a bit of a Bollywood following going on here!

Jafar, yes, you are right. I am still debating taking this job at the Sunni school (if I do this, I would have to delay my job in Morocco), but at the same time, I feel like I should do it, plant a seed, save these children from indoctrination and from all that is wrong in that institution which they perceive Islam to be.  :!

Actually, I think we should start infiltration groups-act from within-best way to do it!  :voodoo:    :pr

@es

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Morrocco! I would love to see England and Turkey too. I love visiting new places as a traveller , not as a tourist. Insha Allah, once i get enough $$, i will be travelling around the world like no one's business!!  8) You are a punjabi? hehe a bit of taani and surinder saani eh!  ;)

Did you listen to the flute version of om shanti om? It is simply%r0mesmerizing~ Yeah, the song "tujh mein rab dikhta hein" is quite debatable. Your name is sajda? what a beautiful name!! Haha i have a friend and her name is Soniya. I keep singing the tamil song "Soniya" to her :P If only someone makes a song in the honour of my name :P  Haha nahh you arent ranting! you are sharing interesting facts about you! I lo)ke ;)

Anushka Sharma is simply GORGEOUS! Did you listen to dam dam masta hai from band baarat banja? SUPERB dance!!

Arifa, Shah Rukh Khan, 'DDLJ'!  :D  ;)

Hehe :P Tujhe Dekha to ya jaana sanam~

Salaam Arifa, Insh'Allah you are well!

Funnily enough, I never wanted to go to Morocco, let alone live there! To it's credit, there is some beautiful coastline there, and I do love the sea!
I would like to go to Turkey too-that also has some wonderful beaches, and it is so rich in history. I intend to go there at some point in the next two years and spend 4-6 weeks there insh'Allah.

I know what you mean about not being a tourist. I hate it when people do that. My mum is the worst culprit. When we went to Spain she felt the compulsion to have me take a picture of her every two minutes. I might have indulged her photo fetish if it wasn't for the fact we were on a boat surrounded by sea! And even in London, despite having been there a million times before-not only must we have pictures taken at every single monument, but we can't walk down a single inordinate street without the camera coming out.
Being a tourist is boring. I think the best thing to do is absorb the local culture. So, which other places are on your hitlist?

Yes, I am Punjabi. Are you from the South?

I have not heard the flute version of that song. I will youtube it. Thank you for the compliment about my name. Insh'Allah your husband will pen you a song and tribute poetry in your name! :-)

I have got to be honest, looks-wise, Anushka Sharma is not my cup of tea. To be honest, I know most people think she is attractive, and Katrina Kaif too, but I find them a little plain for me. I generally like girls with wild hair, soulful eyes and earthy personalities with a little bit of fire. I don't like skinny girls either. Katrina is beautifully curvy, but her and Anushka seem too nicey nicey, goody goody type of girls for me. I have very strange taste, according to my friends, in men and I suppose, I am just as strange in my taste for women!

The dam dam song,I have definitely seen it,but I can't remember the video.I will add that on my youtube list too!

DDLJ is a classic. My favourite is 'Devdas', Sanjay Leela Bhansali's. Yours?
Salaam.
