since you brought up bone marrow transplant Morninglight,
I think there was a story of a man cured of AIDS by having a bone marrow transplant of a person who was "immune" to AIDS. I think that would be because some people have a genetic variant which makes their cells not have receptors that the HIV virus could latch onto. This would mean that a person might be infected with HIV virus, but the virus wouldn't be able to grow/develop in their body.
