Wives of the prophets.

morningdew:
I was not sure where this topic belonged. However, I wanted to see if it had been discussed or wondered about on this forum.

I am told men can have wives up to four but for reasons of support only not illicit sex.

Are you saying that the last prophet did not have sexual relations with his wives?

I know from history he had one wife whom he had children with. Then after her death many wives whom he had no children with.

But, the Quran does say wives are not as mothers either??

So a non-sexual wife whom you can do what with?

Or have I completely lost all intelligence on the matter?

youssef4342:
hmm,
Based on my limited knowledge, I would say  that polygamy would be valid only if the next 3 wives are widows AND with children.
The Quran does not speak against having intimate relationships with the other wives.
The advice would be more  making all the wives content 33:51

morningdew:
Well, Hummmmm...

It does not say they have to be widows and with children either.    I think it is for support but all women are to be supported not just widows and children.

I know to keep all women happy would be one wife only but to be fair non-sexual relations would be bearable.

And Allah does say he would not give us something we cannot bear.

Most of the time a second wife means divorce the first. It would seem because he is having intimate relations with another if he was not why divorce.

I am wondering if maybe the prophet had no sexual relations with these women??  Because to think of the prophet would think of someone fair to them. Not someone who would harm them.

I say again. No women wants her husband to have another wife. However,  non-sexual relationships would be more fair and so much more bearable.

Of course I am just wondering. I am not sure of anything.

youssef4342:

Please ponder over
" If you fear you are not going to be fair with orphans (deem it best  for the orphans, you may marry their mothers—you may marry two, three, or four. If you fear lest you become unfair, then you shall be content with only one, or with what you already have. Additionally, you are thus more likely to avoid financial hardship' (4:3)

It talks about ORPHANS in the context of marrying , two, three, or four....

morningdew:
And divorced women are considered orphans?

If you read with understanding.  It does say to be content with what "You already have."

Does it mean you will divorce the one you already have or keep her but have no sexual relations with her?

For sure another wife will cause discontent to grow.

Just spreading this all out. I am women. It means a lot to me.

Personally I read when Allah sent Adam and Eve to earth he said they would be enemies to each other.

I often see men and women are enemies to each other.   Men accusing women of less intelligence then men have and women seeing men as brutal and uncaring.

Maybe I think too much.

I am still seeing maybe the prophet had no sexual relations with these women.  He spent the last half of his life working for Allah. Not enjoying women.

For those who had said bad things about the prophet with many women will be quite surprised come judgement day.
