I used to be a buddhist.
I lived almost eleven years in SE-Asia, and buddhism is full of superstitions and bordeline occult behaviours. But when you look at the more pure form the monks are following, especially in Thailand, you will find buddhism is not a religion per default. Some buddhists believe in God, most of them do not.
Buddhism is more of finding a balance within yourself as well as a balance between you and the world. Their "paradise" Nirvana is not something you go to when you die, but you reach Nirvana when you have achieved perfect balance. Therefore they believe in reincarnation since it takes many lifetimes to achieve Nirvana. When you reach Nirvana you will simply dissolve and become one with the universe.
I think if you view buddhism in a non-religious way you will find many things that are good for you and if you are interested you should pursue the teachings. Not telling you what God to obey, but what I mean is that if you beleive in islam there will be no contradiction if you find inspiration in buddhism in how to live your life. I just read some of the links antitarzan gave, and it is all true if you regard buddhism as a religion. But like I said, many of the "true" believers do not see it as a religion.

Peace Emil, I think the point would be no god. I still cannot grasp how a loving GOD would mislead those who where not meant to believe for reasons only known to GOD into an eternal inferno.
