So my masjid had Humanity Day, over all it went over well.
Background... As most of you know or have heard why stoning is allowed, do to a hadith.
So a man in the audience stands up and says to the Imam, I have a serious question about cutting of the hands of thieves and the stoning, can you tell me about this and where I can research it in your book and how muslims really feel about this.
I was all ears, because I was thinking.. OMG please don't tell all these people (over 200) that we as Muslims do this because it was on a paper that a goat once ate..
Well he started to talk and he said, this stoning issue is not in the Quran our holy book, however in Islam we can adopt punishments of others if we feel it is for the good of the ppl. He called it ijma and ijtihad. That stoning was adopted from the Jewish traditions in Medina. Also he said when the qu'ran states to cut off a hand it does not mean it literally and most places don't do this.
What do you guys think?
I found it odd, because when I ASKED, I was given the stupid hadith...lol They are embarrassed of their own hadith,... this is what it proved it to me.
