Marriage ceremonies
SarahY:
Peace All,
Have any of you been to traditional wedding/marriage ceremonies? If you have did the conductor (sheikh) or the guardians of the couple hold hands? or hold hands and have a cloth over them? what is up with that tradition. is it just an arab thing or does it happen in different communities?

Salaam,
Do you count the wedding that I recently witnessed as a traditional wedding ceremony? lol
SarahY:
lol yeh that's counted :P

Well, since you count that... lemme recall what happened.
There were the bride and the bridegroom, the sheikh, the witnesses (five of us). Basically, he just made the bride and the bridegroom as well as the witnesses to sign the nikah paper. Then he opened the ceremony by sending prayers to the Prophet because it's the Sunnah way, then reciting Fatihah, chucking a good portion of hadiths and a little bit of the Qur'an about marriage, "tips" on how to survive marriage", asking the bride how much the dowry was etc etc, then asking the bridegroom if he wanted to take the bride as his wife, then he 'gave away' the bride to him. Marriage is valid.
So no, nothing like what you described ;p
SarahY:
In the case the sheikh acted as her wali, the sheikh didn't hold the grooms hand? I got told he did :P
