chemical imbalance/psychological ailment

(1/6) > >>

AK85:
I have a hereditary chemical imbalance which I get from my mother.

I am eligible for receiving paxil from my doctor, and have been diagnose with clinical depression. Since I was 16 years old I have been taking these pills.

Over the years, there have been times when I have tried to ween myself off of it by going for two or three weeks to see if I can survive psychologically speaking without these pills. All the times have been complete failures and I have had to go back on them.

My motivation for trying to quit was that I did not like having my life dictated by pills. I did not like the idea of being dependent on these pills. What if one day they were suddenly unavailable for whatever reason, how would I cope?

Recently I went on another voluntary withdrawal.

By the end of the second week, I decided like many times before that I had to admit defeat and resume taking these pills.

However three nights ago, I went to sleep and in total humility and despair I begged God to help me persevere through this adversity.

I was terrified with joy the next day, when I felt better and have not been taking the pills for quite some time now.

The Qu'ran has become my anti depressant, and Allah the caretaker of my psychological health.

This is nothing short of a miracle, and I felt obligated to share this with all of you, to NEVER give up faith and ALWAYS thank God even in times of great despair and when all seems hopeless.

Some of you are wise enough to take heed of this advice even before such afflictions have faced you. To those who were careless and in my position however, I advise you to humble yourself before Allah and allow him to help you, He can and most importantly he WILL if you submit yourself to him and implore Him for his help when you are facing difficulties.

I am at the best psychological state I have felt in a while. The paxil made me feel cheery, but also arrogant and unappreciative. Now I am at peace, not depressed and passive, but also not arrogant. It is beyond description how much better I feel now than when I was taking these pills.

All praise, all thanks to Allah, the All knowing, the all mighty, the one who ALWAYS listens and NEVER abandons the patient believers

I was moved to the point of tears when I reexamined the following verses which had convinced me to seek the help of the all mighty with an open heart.

[29:2-3] "Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe," without being put to the test?" We have tested those before them, for GOD must distinguish those who are truthful, and He must expose the liars.

[2:155] We will surely test you through some fear, hunger, and loss of money, lives, and crops. Give good news to the steadfast.

[3:186] You will certainly be tested, through your money and your lives, and you will hear from those who received the scripture, and from idol worshippers, a lot of insult. If you steadfastly persevere and lead a righteous life, this will prove the strength of your faith.

[47:31] We will certainly put you to the test, in order to distinguish those among you who strive, and steadfastly persevere. We must expose your true qualities.

[3:17] (They are) those who are patient ones, those who are true (in Faith, words, and deeds), and obedient with sincere devotion in worship to Allah. Those who spend (give the Zakat and alms in the Way of Allah) and those who pray and beg Allah's Pardon in the last hours of the night.

[9:51] Say, "Nothing happens to us, except what GOD has decreed for us. He is our Lord and Master. In GOD the believers shall trust."

[3:134] Those who spend (in Allahs Cause - deeds of charity, alms, etc.) in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinoon (the gooddoers).

[2:45] Seek Allah's help with patient perseverance and prayer. It is indeed hard except for those who are humble.

[21:83] And Job implored his Lord: "Adversity has befallen me, and, of all the merciful ones, You are the Most Merciful."

[21:84] We responded to him, relieved his adversity, and restored his family for him, even twice as much. That was a mercy from us, and a reminder for the worshipers.

[21:85] Also, Ismail, Idris, Zal-Kifl; all were steadfast, patient.

[21:86] We admitted them into our mercy, for they were righteous.

[2:124] Recall that Abraham was put to the test by his Lord, through certain commands, and he fulfilled them..

[39:7] If you disbelieve, then verily, Allah is not in need of you, He likes not disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, so He will inform you what you used to do. Verily, He is the All-Knower of that which is in (mens) breasts.

[33:22] When the true believers saw the parties (ready to attack), they said, "This is what GOD and His messenger have promised us, and GOD and His messenger are truthful." This (dangerous situation) only strengthened their faith and augmented their submission.

[2:156] "When an affliction befalls them, they say, "We belong to God, and to Him we are returning."

[2:153] O you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer). Truly! Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).

[8:2] Those are the true believers, whose hearts tremble in fear when is remembrance of Allah, and when His verses are recited their faith becomes stronger and they trust in their Allah.

AlFajr:
Thanks for sharing. I've called to God in the past to remove an affliction, and to me the response was nothing short of a miracle as well.

My pleasure : ) I'm happy to see that others have the courage and wisdom to seek Allah for help with adversity

Superb!

Regardless, try green tea. This contains caffeine and increased levels of l-theanine, a vitamin that inhibits over-stimulation from caffeine and promotes deep relaxation, calm and has anxiolytic effects. It provides a sense of supreme inner calm and clarity, in fact if there was such a thing as the "peacemaker's pharmacy" this would be handed out for free at the counter. Use organic tea leaves (I recommend dragon pearls) as they are more beneficial. In addition to this, green tea is a powerful health promoting agent known to increase fat loss and cause all sorts of good. As a testament to its efficacy, zen monks consume large quantities and sit around all day (aka meditate) on this stuff. If it helps enlightened beings achieve enlightenment, chances are it can do wonders for you :P

It is a godsend for all depressive people! I'm happy to hear that you have gotten over your depression, indeed it's something that strikes at the core of one's soul and sucks away the energy to live, let alone change one's condition. Keep in mind that your "cure for depression", while nonetheless superb (for depending on Allah alone is suberb) perhaps will cease to be as effective in the moments that things challenge your perception of the quran as truth even though it is indeed the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The emptiness from depression is associated with lowered serotonin levels and the resultant feeling from this lack of serotonin is a deep seemingly uncaused sense of "nothing is good" (even in the utmost of material pleasures, drugs aside), as opposed to a well balanced serotonin system's characteristic feeling of "everything is fine :D" (even as the city burns around you!).

Regardless again, the quran is indeed the most powerful anti-depressant I have ever used. It is sort of a placebo effect except there is no placebo involved, rather disbelief (not in the typical sense) acts as a potent nocebo agent (hence why I said that if your belief in quran is challenged, the cure will not be as effective).

Peace!

salaam

it is indeed the Qu'ran which is the best anti depressant. And yes, that is the condition which I have. Clinical depression/chemical imbalance i.e. lower serotonin production levels than usual. You obviously know what you're talking about, no matter how good things were around me "nothing was good" described exactly how I used to feel. With God's grace I was more fortunate during these episodes than many other people yet still felt that "nothing was good." No more however.

You are also right about the Qu'ran replacing the drugs, just like the chemical drugs I used to require everyday I also require the Qu'ran and need to remember and reflect on its verses and teachings everyday. However this anti depressant is free, will always be there, doesn't require a prescription, and promises eternal salvation if I adhere to its wisdom and commands

I prefer the Qu'ran : )

There are verses which are not immediately clear to me but I pray every night for God to increase my knowledge, to make me one of the patient ones, to make me one of the ones who never forget to implore him for his mercy during hardship, to make me one of the winners on judgement day, to keep me on the straight path and to help me understand what he has decreed for me to understand.
