Are you sure that verse 43:20 says this?!
I have verse 43:20 says: "And they say: If the Beneficent One had (so) willed, we should not have worshipped them. They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do but guess".
I think thar verse is 43:18
[43:18] Awaman yunashshao fee alhilyatiwahuwa fee alkhisami ghayru mubeenin اومن ينشا في الحلية وهو في الخصام غير مبين
أَوَمَن يُنَشَّأُ فِي الْحِلْيَةِ وَهُوَ فِي الْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ
