What happens after death?
ichephren:
Salaam,
I just remembered the verse that tells us that Allah takes our souls every night and returns them. Those who die in their sleep do not have their souls return to them. So, I suppose that it would simulate the same dreamlike state as sleep.

 Salaaman!
--- Quote from: "Layth" ---
My understanding is that we are in a 'dream state' where time is irrelevant...
However, if a person is evil, then the 'dream' will be more of a 'nightmare':
"And if you could only see as the Angels take those who have rejected, they strike their faces and their backs.Taste the punishment of the blazing fire! (8:50)
Layth
--- End quote ---
My understanding for the sentence 8:50 is how your life will be taken away by the angels if you are a rejecter.
Salaamun!

Salaam
I am not sure about the disbelievers but I think for the believers something does happen. They go to Heaven:
[2:154] Do not say of those who are killed in the cause of GOD, "They are dead." They are alive at their Lord, but you do not perceive.
Also, I noticed, perhaps maybe it's just the Rashad Khalifa translation which i predominately use Heaven is numerously mentioned alongside earth.
Now, we all know what we are living in is earth, so does that mean Heaven is also something people are currently living in as well? I recall a verse where Heaven is going to be destroyed on the Day Of Judgement:
[69:16] The heaven will crack, and fall apart.
So if it is gonna to 'crack' on Day of Judgement it must already be around now or before Day of Judgement comes correct?
I also noticed when talking in future sense it refers to the believers abode as Paradise, so in conclusion I think Heaven is where Believers who have died are currently in,and where believers who will die before the Day of Judgement will go. And Paradise is sort of a new Heaven where the believers will be transfered to AFTER the Day of Judgement as it's not created yet.
Peace

Peace Islamik
Verse 69:16 I believe refers to the heavens above you, not to Paradise. Also Paradise is the abode of the Believers indeed because it is their inheritance (Quran 16:93). That does not mean that they are living in it now since God already says the Day of Reckoning is one in which all will be judged accordingly. In verse 24:57 God says the Disbeliever's abode is in Hell. It is their inheritance, but they are not there yet. This is just my understanding.
Take care.

Peace All,
I'm not that worried about the afterlife, in fact who cares?
I'm starting to Islam in a whole new, different perspective.
The Quran works effortlessly to improve our lifes here, to give us the best here.
If we follow the guidelines as set out in the Quran, then we will have the best here and there.
I have enough faith in Allah to know that I will be justly rewarded by him.
Why worry when I have grasped the strongest hold with Allah?
