Open letter to newbies...

Peace,

http://212.37.222.34/islam/embracingstorieseng.htm

Won't it be a good idea if we (someone here   ) wrote an open letter to some of the (western) converts to sunnism.

I say this because with these converts (the ones who didn't grew up in a sunni household)
I don't think they have all these sunni traditions (ahadeeth) implanted
as is not the case by the way with sunnis who accepted all these traditions
from youth on as a self-evident unquestionable part of islam.

Because of this they'd probably be more accepting of criticism of the ahadeeth and the authenticity of it.
Most of them probably also started asking questions in the first place
(in contrast to most sunnis who are happy with just having blind faith)
and if confronted they'd maybe ask more questions
because they're used to it.

May The God guide the sincere ones...

has anybody ever wondered if people like Buddha (or someone else), were actually like messengers of there time, but later on throught misunderstanding was turned into a thing of worship like how Jesus was?

Peace,

Writing a letter is easy...How and where would you send it?

For some reason, I thought the letter would be on this site for any 'newbie' who just joined, kind of as a welcome and a 'quick tour' or something. Perhaps I misunderstood.

I just have a hard enough time trying to question my sunni relatives. I don't know how they would react if they heard my views on hadith. I'm not brave enough to risk it at the moment but am doing my best to re-educate my kids. I think we are supressed by sunnis(nothing much has changed there). They must fear us though because people tend to supress those they fear the most.
Just yesterday my very own family turned into a sunni mob and started harrassing me about why iv'e started to question the Hadith. They asked me wether i have changed religion and become a Quranee. I told them the only thing that needed changing was their diapers because they were behaving like a bunch of kids.

peace Tahira,

lol! you know, if your family is acting this way, and if your old enough, just move out or something. seriously. its better than getting beheaded or something.
Right now, i'm trying to explain my views to my sunni friends and their first question always is "are you shia?" :)

Beware of this 'label' tactic. What the people you are arguing with are trying to do is find a label that they can fit you under (in this case it is 'Qurani'). If you are silent and let this label affirm itself, then they will in their minds not have to argue with you or even concider what you are saying since you are a 'Qurani' (oh, shes one of those!).

Repeat to them, even if it takes 100 times, that you are a 'Muslim' and nothing but a 'Muslim'. And that you follow the light that was sent down by God through the prophet Mohammed.

God names us 'Muslimeen' and that is a title we shoudl reclaim and carry with prode.

I agree with Layth's admonitions. He has called us muslimeen [22:78], let them know so.
