Questions/Comments on the Quran / Re: Rome - Surat Ar- Rum
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:35:55 PM »
Salam Ajay,

As Pazuzu pointed out, the Quran was recorded without dialectic marks, so both readings are correct from a linguistic point of view.

As for why the majority read it as "defeated, then won", that is how they heard it was read and then they heard the story of Persia and Rome to explain the verses.

Simply reading the entire sequence of verses will give you the correct answer:

30:2 The Romans have "won/lost?".
30:3 At the lowest part on the earth. But after their "victory/loss?", they will be "defeated/victorious?".
30:4 In a few more years. The decision before and after is for God, and on that day the believers will rejoice.
30:5 With the victory of God. God gives victory to whom He wishes; He is the Noble, the Merciful.

The Quran is giving us the location of the first battle "lowest part on earth" (Dead Sea).

The Quran tells us that the believers will rejoice after the second battle (which will take place in 3-5 years).

The Quran tells us that this rejoicing of the believers is due to the "victory from God".

If we take the traditional Persians vs. Romans argument, both these people are pagans in the eyes of the Quran and both did declare war on Muslims. That believers rejoice for the victory of one pagan nation over another makes no sense whatsover. Moreso, that God would call this a victory from him is bizzare as God does not support any idol worshippers/blasphemers (which is what Christianity and the idolization of Jesus as the son of God is).

Now, if we go back to the verses and tie them in with what we know of Islamic history:

- Battle of Mutaa took place between the Muslims and the Romans near the area of the Dead Sea. Muslims were defeated and had to flee (many graves are marked in the area of Jordan for the fallen). Battle was lead by Zied - the Prophet's adopted son who was killed there.

- 3 years later, the Muslims lead an army against Rome and the battle of Yarmouk is fought in the area north of Jordan near the Golan Heights. 5 Roman legions are defeated  and Rome loses control of all of the Levant area giving the way to the liberation of Jerusalem and the taking of Damascus.

Dear Yousef,

I am quite concerned after reading your post.

Opening the Quran and looking for which verses shows up is far from what I would describe as "inspiration". You are allowing your subconsciousness to run wild with a glance at a book in a bookstore being read as a message to fast or take certain action...

When Zakaria prayed for a son, God responded by sending him angels to inform him of the decision and to instruct him that he should take a 3 day vow of silence. That is how God communicates - no ambiguity, not room for second guessing.

The only other communication I can recall is the inspiration that comes during sleep (never waking) in the form of dreams. But for that you have to have the talent to understand the message like Joseph did. And, as in the case of Abraham, if the message is not being understood, it kept getting sent over and over until he carried it out.

Regards,

Salam Zenon and welcome :)

What topic was on your mind to debate?

Salam,

The Admins are listed on the forum page under each thread.

We have had a revision to activate some new admins and deactivate some who were not active - but I hope you appreciate that not all decisions can be black or white and many threads are left alone because they are judgement calls (we try to promote an atmosphere of openness and honesty - but at the same time one of respect).

Finally, on the subject of "Trash", that folder was created so Admin's don't make the decision to delete or keep threads based on their own views which may be subjective (the only exception I would imagine are spammers or clear profanity).

Only brother Layth could debate this matter objectively with me.

Thank you brother for your kind words. I did enjoy this discussion we had - though looks like the thread got too heated up.  :'(

Salam Jewish dude,

Thank you for your input.

I have another solution: People who are not originally from Palestine submit to the will and law of the Palestinians, seeking to officially remain as naturalised citizens.

This action, while the Israelis now have the upper hand militarily and economically, will be seen as a genuine gesture of goodwill and will 99% get accepted.

However, if we fast foreward years or decades from now when the world has changed and the Palestinains/Arabs have the upper hand - then the ending will not be pleasant.

Dear Ziggy,

I take offence to your post.

The Quran is not a hippy communne book - but one that teaches us JUSTICE above all else, even if justice has to be enforced with force.

Perhaps you skipped the verses where adulterers are lashed in public, murderers killed, war declared, etc.

But, this side of the Quran is too much for some people who want us to live with injustice and "turn the other cheek"  - falsly promoted as the teachings of God through Christ!

Quran is all or nothing...

2:85 But then here you are killing each other and expelling a group of you from their homes; you act towards them with evil and animosity. And if they come to you as prisoners, you ransom them while it was unlawful for you to expel them! Do you believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in part? The punishment for those among you who do so is humiliation in this worldly life, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be delivered to the most severe retribution. God is not unaware of what you all do.

Salam good logic,

I agree with you. The end of the 2nd time has not yet come to pass - but has been building up.

In-fact, the verse you quoted ties in with the Jerusalem being Bakka discussion on another thread, as the gathering of Israel is in the place where the temple is located.

Salam,

We are talking about the Quran stating that the Qibla of these groups is not the same (and I pointed out it isn't). Saying that from 50km they all look the same is not an argument that negates what I said.

As for Petra fitting the city where Mohammed grew up. I agree 100%. Mohammed was raised by gentiles in an Arabic speaking city which never had any messenger - so the evidence of Petra being his original city works.

Dear Solomon,

Palestine had inhabitants 5,000 years ago when the Jews were first told to enter it by Moses (in it are a powerful people). Don;t fall prey to Jewish proganda of a land with no people for a people without a land!

If you want to undertsand the level of criminality of the zionists/jews in Palestine I suggest you go back to the published writings predating WW1 and the infamous "Balfour Declaration" in which the British promissed to give a state to the Jews from the land of Palestine in return for the Jewish economic offensive against Germany.

Our stance is against occupation of any people (regardless of how we feel about them). Your position that the Arabs did this or that is trying to find fault in the victim to lend support to the criminal. Also, trying to tie military victory into being supported by God is what the murdering crusaders used to claim! When 2 parties are both far away from the path of God alone, then the one who is more equipped and with better planning will win 10 out of 10 times. The European settlers wipping out the native americans in each battle was not due to God, nor was the slaughter of the first crusade, nor the war in Iraq, etc.

Your reading of the Jewish transgression of Sura 17 seems distrorted. The 1st was most likely the Banylonian attack against the Kingdom of Israel. As for the second, at the time of the Quranic revelation it was "yet to come" (see 17:7) - so it cannot be your claim of the Roman responce to the Jewish rebellion in Palestine. God also states that the Children of Israel will come together during this second prophecy into one land (17:104) and this is exactly what we have been seeing for the last 70-80 years.
