I have heard it said of Islam, over and over again and again, time after time that Islam just "makes sense" and is so clearly logical, etc. etc.

My question to you (all of you) is that if you believe what you just said, and what I have read time and again from other Muslim missionaries, than how do you explain ONE SINGLE Muslim converting to Islam?!

Do you mean a Muslim converting to Christianity? Lack of education on their part. Most likely they don't know there own faith; but to each his own, that was their choice. Perhaps they feel lost within their community. If I was in a place like Saudi and dealt with their rules and ignorance towards women, I might convert to a more "peaceful" and "accepting" faith. Some Muslim countries show Islam in the worst form. Looking at those places and how they handle things, I would not have chosen their misrepresentation of Islam, then again that is most likely why I am on this site and not an orthodox sunni.

WOW!!!

What a heated discussion. I have a personally aspect to this, my father is gay. He first felt this way when he was about 12 and tried to kill himself, as he came from a religious family. My grandfather, his father tried to "beat the gay" out of him.  As he grew he suppressed these feelings and married my mother, who had me and my sister. 10yrs of trying to hide/fight his urges, my mother found him with women's clothing and a "male" friend. My family ended as my mom divorced and kept us from our father. My mom did remarry and I have a great step dad. I have spoken to my father since, I call him once in a while to see how he is doing, if he needs anything. I have seen people who seem to have no choice, but then I have seen an abused women who changes to having women companions due to her past male issues. I don't know if ppl are born gay or not, I just will not transgress upon their rights as human beings, perhaps it is a test for our humanity. I found it hard to believe ppl want to mess up their lives, like they have nothing better to do than to say.. I need drama, I know I will be gay! Nature has homosexuality in it among other things, so I don't know. I would not disown my children if they were gay or transgender, I would pray for them and be there as a parent.

I feel they (gays)have that freedom to do with their life as they want and God will do as he pleases with them, does not mean I don't like homosexuality, it destroyed my family.  But to just hate a group of ppl without any mercy, is something I fear God will judge me on. You can hate the act, but you can't oppress another, they will do what they want anyway. I have not seen a punishment in Quran for gays being death. I also think Lot had to do with gang raping of men and the fact they were heterosexual choosing to cause corruption in the land. Homosexuality has existed before Lot so it was not something new, from what I have studied.

I also feel torn when I see a committed gay couple raising an orphan and taking care of a child, when on the other hand there is a women with 5 kids to 5 different men abusing every system out there. Which is worse? IMO the woman with the kids. There is a gay couple here at work that adopted 2 children, those children are not gay and they themselves are married with an established value of commitment from what they observed growing up.

Allahu Alam

I have only watched half so far. I dislike math, so I found myself getting drowsy, but I will finish it. It is very informative. Thanks for the link. In school math was my hardest subject. If God talks to mankind in mathematics, I am screwed...lol I have enough trouble with Arabic.

Guys,

There is an easy solution (if this claim was true). Learn Arabic from Hadith, then once you know the language, discard the hadith. Now you can read at lease one letter of Quran, without the baggage. The claim is you need it to learn the Arabic, so once learned, who needs it.

They are stories and I treat them as such stories. I am not wasting time finding out which one is strong and which ones are weak, not when God says HIS BOOK aka Quran is complete. If you wanna question the credibility or truthfulness of the author of Qur'an you can go right ahead.. I am good. I have always put the words of man between myself and God, I will never do that again.

I just feel if I sit back and do nothing, then I can't complain that nothing has changed. I don't sit in my speeches and bash hadith, I just don't use them to get my point across. Now being the Chaplin overtime might raise some difficulties. I just finished the clearances with the jail, so still early on. I know the sunni traditions, when I speak to someone or advise a new convert I teach them the traditional way and I say I personally don't follow that (if it is something I disagree with), however you need to ask the Imam and make your own decision. Perhaps because I don't bash or push my own agenda, it is not a problem. I always quote Quran when I do talk. I figure if God is opening doors, why not walk through them. Nothing is impossible, people can change and not everyone is blind. Actually, you would be amazed how many sisters question hadith or just don't pay mind to them. Most of those women are some of the leaders in my community! The sisters have more control of the masjid than the brothers....lol We have 5 women and 4 men on the board. Maybe my community is different, but I still see heavy sunni traditions. I have gotten an ear full when I wear nail polish or pet the neighbor's dog out side the masjid.

Earthdom, I actually really like my imam. Yes, he uses hadith but he is different. He wrote this whole khutbah on his blog and it was "how stoning is NOT islam". I have had many discussions with him about hadith and issues such as stoning, cutting off a thief's hand and beating of a wife, he said none of these are Islam but ill interpretations. He will actually be on PCNC Night Talk to night in the PGH area, can't wait to watch him. There are times we butt heads. I have told him I disagree or will shake my head at a hadith. Usually if I have proof when I question, he is nothing but kind and respects my opinion. Now the other Imam we had, said I was not a true Muslim and lectured me on numerous accounts and wanted to have intervention meetings with me, I declined of course. Just because I respect my current Imam, does not mean I am loyal to all this interpretations and teachings. Hope that makes sense :)
