Hijab, amazing how a square peace of material can gain so much attention.  When I followed the Sunnah I wore a hijab before it was popular.  However after studying the Quran I now know wearing Hijab is not a directive from Allah but rather man.  I took off my Hijab and was accused of all kinds of evils from the Muslim community.  It was a test for me.  Do I listen to man or do I follow Allah's rules?  Of course the answer is simple - follow Allah.

Global conference is what we need to bring people together.  Is there a team that is working on the event? Would they be calling for papers?  Would there be any opportunity for debates?  Sorry for all the questions.  We have many renowned Quran alone scholars do you know of any that would come?  I believe there are also talk about plans to have a conference in Vancouver this year.  Any way we can work together on such an event?

Hope to hear more about this event soon.  Lets make this happen God willing.

Peace

Vicky

Peace,

Security is important but doable.  For events such as this a university, college, or Interfaith group would be ideal.  It depends on how the event is organized and who will be presenting.  There are many renowned scholars in the States that may be interested in presenting.  My concern is that to plan and organize such an event for this year will be tough due to time constraints.  May want to think about having the event in the fall or next year.

My husband and I will attend the conference.  I believe it is critical to meet to discuss new strategies especially given the events that have taken place over the last 2 years.

Peace to all, I too feel alone. I just thank God everyday that I have my family and together we do engage in lengthy discussions.  We should really try to have more conferences where we can meet personally.

Layth I agree.  Establishing a community is very important.  I believe fear of islolation is one of many factors as to why Muslims continue to adhere to traditions.  Humans have a need to belong.  We are social creatures.

I also like the structual design of a meeting centre however given that we are scattered throughout the world and the cost of building a structure can we start with a vertual community and work towards establishing a strong, well organized NGO?

Peace to everyone,

I am not new to this site.  Since 2010, I have been an avid reader of the excellent articles posted on this site. My husband and I  also attended the Islamic Reform Conference in England 2010.  Since 2010 I have completed two projects -  "Islamic Movements in the West" and
" A Grounded Research Theory on the Rift between Traditional and Modern Muslims".  I found the material posted on this web site very usefull. I would like to thank everyone for sharing their views.

On a personal note, I converted to Islam over 40 years ago after reading the Quran.  At that time I only knew the Quran.  I become Muslim because of the freedom and peace and knew in my heart the Quran was the word of God.  However, later on I started following Sunnah traditions.  For years I practiced all the rituals but over time I lost my true faith. I was more concerned with following man's rules rather than God's rules.  I was not at peace.  Thank God I went back to studying the Quran and found peace.  I know the Quran is the only word of God.  When I opened my mind and soul to God through the will of God I learned what Muslim really means.  I have much to learn and look forward to learrning and srenghtening my faith.

Peace
